You won't need your passport when you visit this East Side mainstay, though it may seem as if you're stepping into an authentic German beer hall. Fashioned with old world decor, Von Trier has been a refuge for those seeking a mellow recluse from the North Avenue bar scene. Truly authentic with its dark wood interior, hand-painted murals (both behind the bar and on the ceilings), ornate stained-glass windows, and replica of the Pabst Mansion antler chandelier, this cozy tavern also boasts one of the city's best outdoor beer gardens. With no competition from a television or jukebox, Von Trier makes certain your focus is on the beer and the company.
Pouring a mind-boggling selection of domestic beers (like Milwaukee's own Lakefront and Sprecher beers), as well as imported brews from around the world, Von Trier also has an impressive wine and hot drink selection -- taking up three pages of the 10-page drink menu. A perfect place for a nightcap during the cold Wisconsin winters, warm up with the Hot Brick Toddy (rye whiskey, sugar, butter and cinnamon).

Well, I'm glad you've reopened since I was last there more than a decade ago.

I have been drinking summer ale and or wheat beer, remembering yours served with a lemon slice. Do you still have the classical music juke box or did that get done in by the fire? I first was introduced to your charm in the second half of the 1950s. " Tell me, my dear, what would you say is the meaning of Life?", that's Harry, Professor of Psychology at UWM. I hope you remember Jim Bolton whose classroom was at the counter of the Oriental Drug. Miss you, guys.

von Trier is the 1st place i stop at, whenever I am in Milwaukee. For the best atmosphere and authentic beer hall feeling, you would be foolish to not want to go ti the oasis of Milwaukee.
