A true East Side institution, this old-school cocktail lounge has welcomed thirsty locals and visitors since 1934. Set in the heart of the East Side's nightlife district, Vitucci's is hard to miss with the bright neon sign that flanks its front entrance. A large, wraparound bar and soft spoken bouncer are normally the first things to greet you when you walk into the lounge, and though the decor has probably went in and out of fashion at least three times since the bar's inception (not to mention they keep their Christmas lights up year-round), it's Vitucci's laid-back and unpretentious attitude that has made this watering hole a must-stop for barflies of any persuasion. It also doesn't hurt that over 70 varieties of beer by the bottle (a handful which are brewed right here in town), as well as several swanky martinis are offered each night. Music lovers also flock here because Vitucci's is consistently voted as having Milwaukee's best jukebox. --

Bait and switch "specials"

Vitcucci's baits customers with signs for drink "specials" that don't exist. They have a big sign out that says Thursday night British imports $2. My husband and I walked in, asked the bartender what British imports they had, he told us, we each ordered one and he charged us $8. When we told him that the sign outside says British imports are $2, he said, uh, that's just after 9 pm. Nowhere on the sign does it say that the special is only after 9 pm and furthermore, why would we be asking for British imports except that they were on special? We proceeded to watch him charge other people $2 for domestics and well drinks, which we would have ordered had we known that they were $2. Then he used the f word loudly several times talking to his buddy at the bar. I thought Vitucci's was a swank cocktail lounge, not a dive bar dump.
There are many bars to pick from on the East Side-- why would I go to Vitucci's again? I suggest you go to Von Trier's or Hooligan's next time.Add Commentpanch's Review
