Speed Queen is the best BBQ on the planet as a child I loved when my mother came home with BBQ from Speed Queen. All other BBQ is just meat, Holla!

This is waht BBQ was meant to be!

I worked in that area of Milwaukee for 7 years, and after going there for BBQ, everyone else pales by comparison. Unlike many other establishments, Speed Queen hit the right blend of sweet, tangy, and smoky flavor that the others have been missing.

Some people are put off by the location, but you're not going there to live in the place--it's not a sports bar, you don't go there to rub elbows with ball palyers, you go there to eat the best BBQ in Milwaukee!

Milwaukee's only genuine bbq

That Speed Queen is the best bbq in Milwaukee is not really a debatable point. Saz's, Famouse Dave's, Great Northern bbq, etc... are what I call "commercial q". Speed Queen is not only among the very best bbq in the country, it is among the best restaurants in any category anywhere. This place is an absolute civic gem. Having lived in the Carolina's for a number of years, I fell in love with bbq and devoted my life to creating it. Speed Queen is so good that I gave up that commitment. Just go on the bbq trail in Texas and North Carolina and you will appreciate what you have here in Milwaukee - this is from a certified bbq snob. When they are not at their best they are still good. (And most great q joints are not consistant because they are run by a human pitmaster who has ups and downs. Think of Brett Favre as your pitmaster - he has great games and subpar games. Commercial q on the other hand is always consistant but never spectacular because of the corporate formulas and recipies they have to follow). But when they are on - oh man, it is the best smoked meat I have ever tasted and brother, I have eaten bbq all over and in some of the most famous joints in the country. The ribs are not "falling off the bone" a phrase that tells me ribs are no good. Rather, take a bite and gently tear the meat from the bone. The very best ribs have this texture and are not mushy - see comment about "commercial q" joints. The real show stopper is the pork shoulder. It is so different from the southern bbq that I loved, but it is oh so much better. They don't cook it to as high a tempurature (I'm guessing about 175 degrees versus 190 -195 for pulled pork shoulder) and they slice, rather than pull apart or chop their shoulder. The result is larger chunks of meat many with a thin layer of fat still intact that holds the smokey flaver. Compliment that meat with a sweet but spicey sauce and every bite is a taste sensation. I you like or love bbq, you must go to Speed Queen.

I`ve been going there since 1979 and I can tell you the pork shoulder is to die for and will put you in heaven. Don`t be afraid of the neighborhood, they have security.
