Since 1999, owner Johnny Vassallo (Johnny V to those in the know) has managed to sanctify the late, great meal of the cosmopolitan elite -- steak. Everything about a good steak dinner is luxurious, and Vassallo and his professional staff make sure you enjoy yourself. The steaks themselves are deceptively simple looking, served on a plain white plate by themselves. But start piling on the a la carte items (mashed potatoes with white cheddar cheese, hand-breaded onion rings, steamed asparagus) and you've got a table of delight that Escoffier would drool over.

Downtown concierges recommend Mo's foremost for the food, but the service comes in a close second. Tag team service is flawless, and won't bat an eye when you order a $650 bottle of Cristal with your $69 seafood appetizer, or even if you ask if refills on soda are free (they are). Wine is the elementary choice to complement your steak, and Mo's wine list boasts five different lists to choose from. Mo's Private Cellar is a treasure chest of fine vintage California Cabernets. Make a toast, eat some meat, and if you're still not satisfied, try one of Mo's classic ice cream drinks. A grasshopper never had it so good. -- Jessica Zierten

  • there is a whole lot better out there

very average. don't be fooled by the name and reputation (?). There are by far better steakhouses in milwaukee and they don't require a second mortgage. try jackson grill, butch's, or the 5 o'clock club. they are better MEALS at a much better price. mo's is all name and that name is fading quickly in the milwaukee market.

From the wonderful greeting by Brian (the GM) at the door, to the after dinner drinks with JV (the owner) at the bar...the service and high standards make this experience one you will never forget.

  • Great, need more vodka options

I hadn't been to Mo's for several years, and it's always been one of my favorites. From the hostess to the maitre'd to the team waitstaff, all service was excellent. Another feature that I like about Mo's is that they include salad or soup with your dinner, whereas most high end steak places offer everything ala carte. In addition, at Mo's you can add sauces (bernaise, peppercorn) for no extra charge. The filets we had were melt-in-your-mouth tender and cooked perfectly. The wine choices were wonderful, both by the glass and bottle. My only complaint is that they didn't have Chopin or Belevedere vodka. You'd think a place like this would certainly carry at least one potato vodka (Chopin). Other than that small faux pas, all was excellent.

Expensive but well worth it! Everything was outstanding and I mean everything.

We tried Mo's and found the meat to be tough and the service to be missing. It was a huge disappointment.

  • Fine Dining Hack

Mo has many restaurants across this great city and they all serve very substandard fare at above-standard prices. It's best to ask your concierge for another suggestion when he regurgitates anything beginning with "mo." The Bartolotta family, for example, has a much better chain of restaurants if you seek fine dining. If you have a fear of chains, then I have one word for you . . . Sanford.

First time in Milwaukee our future daughter-in-law recommended Mo's. What a treat! Coming from New Orleans (even post Katrina) we pride ourselves on fine dining. Been all over the country in 36 year business carreer & dined in almost all high end steak/seafood houses in virtually every large city (L.A., San Francisco, Seattle, NYC, Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas, Houston, Dallas, San Diego, etc.) Have never had a better dinning experience anywhere. Food and service were unsurpassed. So impressed that we spent two of our four nights there!
