If the words ''liver dumpling soup'' or ''sauerkraut balls'' excite you, you might want to check out one of Milwaukee's most well-known German hot spots. Located just across the street from Usinger's Sausage and Wisconsin Cheese Mart, Mader's is a must stop for out-of-town guests. No doubt they will be impressed with the restaurant's $1 million collection of medieval suits of armor, weapons, stained glass and steins. Even more impressive is the hearty, yet elegant menu. Dishes like the Hungarian style beef goulash, famous towering pork shank -- a favorite for the last 100 years -- or the German sampler, made with Rhine sauerbraten, Wiener schnitzel, Kassler rippchen, beef goulash, potato dumpling, barrel-cured sauerkraut, Bavarian red cabbage and spaetzel, will make any diner gasp with delight. Less adventurous types might want to instead opt for classics like the beer-battered walleye or New York strip steak. Wash it all down with an import lager, dark as the Black Forest, and you'd swear you were at Oktoberfest. An award-winning brunch is served on Sundays from 10:30AM to 2PM.

Wasn't that impressed...
OK, for starters, I think $19.99 is a little steep for the Sunday brunch. I just wasn't that impressed with the selection. There was scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, french toast and an omlette station... plus 4 or 5 lunch items. Really, not a huge selection for the price. The service was just ok... the music was a little blaring loud for a Sunday early afternoon... I guess the decor was kinda funky/cool...
Add CommentHorrible Place

Thse place needs to be closed. It is dirty, old and supposed to be German cuisine but I have no idea what they were thinking with the menu selections.
Service is good but when you are serving horrible food you only can do so much..
I have been to Mader's twice and have not been dissappointed. Great German food, very good service with excellent explanations of German terms. I would highly recommend this restaurant if someone has a taste or craving for good German cuisine.
Excellent Cuisine & Ambience
I have grown up eating at Mader's and now take my children there. The food is excellent beyond compare and the service is wonderful. Try the Black Forest Schnitzel!!
