There are a number of trendy Milwaukee steak restaurants where being seen and looking sharp are as important as what's on the menu. Coerper's isn't one of them. The neighborhood around Coerper's is sketchy at best, hence the armed guard watching your car while you eat. The dark wood-paneled decor is '50s kitsch, and you don't have to be dressed in your best to eat here. However, Coerper's isn't concerned with style; they're more intent on cooking up quality food. Massive, juicy steaks are the reason this dining institution is packed with people five nights a week. T-bones, New York strips and Coerper's signature filet mignon are smothered in a buttery sauce and cooked to perfection. The steaks are tough to finish in one sitting, even by the heartiest carnivores, but Coerper's wraps up the leftovers in a plastic bag so you have a snack (or entire meal) for later. Dinner includes a large salad, excellent sourdough bread and a relish tray that harkens back to northwoods supper clubs. And like an old-school supper club, dinner is ordered at the bar before you even sit down, which gives you a chance to begin the overindulgence by sipping a brandy old-fashioned. -- SM

Pwkonlne - 06/11/2008I have dined at Coerpers for over 20 years and the newest ownership has not done anything but maintain the excellent standards of the previous owners. Highly recommend the porterhouse or filet. Lighter Eater? Share with your spouse as my wife and I do. I travel across the US and I would rate the 5 O'Clock club one of the best anywhere for its great food service and unique atmosphere

but last time i was their the filet and shrimp were great. i have not been their with the new owners yet. hope to stop there soon just live so far away. you guys should move to caledonia(racine county) .we need a good steak house here.

R Grubanowitch - 05/30/2008Have always enjoyed the food. Always great portions. Since Teddy has left food hasn't changed and the menu has grown with more selections. Wish the old bartenders were still there, they made the wait at the bar enjoyable with a joke or two!....... miss you Mikey.

bathbabe81 - 05/17/2008Hands down best steak and ribs in town...even the Midwest! Different concept than most restaurants you will visit. Drinks first, dinner later. The portions are very generous. Do not let the neighborhood deter you, the guy watching your car is stealthier than you may think. The flavor of any of the entrees are very rich and flavorful. Consistent dinner every time I go. The chef at Five O'Clock is a pro! You will not be disappointed.

Cigars and Steak
beemayhan1 - 02/20/2007My last visit to Coerper's was Feb. 13th. And it probably will be my last since cigar smoking is now allowed in the dining room. After I was seated two cigar smokers were seated behind me. The flavor of my steak was totally lost in the smell of of constant cigar smoke.
We will really miss our visits there
