Not too long ago, if East Side residents wanted an old-fashioned lunch of custard and a face-burger (a burger as big as your face, of course), they had to travel outside of the neighborhood. Bella's Fat Cat changed that in the summer of 2000 and brought a traditional custard stand to the hip Brady Street area. The Fat Cat serves rich vanilla and chocolate custard and a flavor of the day as well as a selection of flavored sodas. More adventurous (and hungry) custard fans can try banana splits, turtle sundaes or thick shakes and malts. The grill side of the menu offers chicken sandwiches, Chicago-style hot dogs and grilled cheese along with tasty and filling burgers. The interior of the Fat Cat is modern but alludes to the charm of an old soda fountain with high stools and a stainless steel counter. The place draws as eclectic a crowd, all momentarily united by the need for really good custard. -- SM

food poisoning?! try never
I live by Bellas on Oakland and have ate there numerous times. I have NEVER gotten food poisoning or ran across a mean employee. They are always great and make the best burgers. Obviously the person above doesn't know what they are talking about.

Trust me, if you eat here you will get sick. Lots of 16 year olds that don't know what they are doing preparing your food (and spitting in it if they don't like you). Whatever you do, don't get a shake, wish you could see the gunk (yellowish brown) that grows (yes it grows) on the shake machine, stale chicken, spoiled burgers all served "hot and fresh." If you want a burger in the tradition that Bella's offers go to Kopps! I guarantee you will get a safer (and tastier) burger at the south ridge Kopps location.
Awesome Place

Bellas cheese curds are out of this world - you cannont get cheese curds like Bellas anywhere else! They also have their own special "Bellas Sauce" for them that everyone should try!
Average, decent fare
A nice location, clean, great staff. Food is average. Burger is large but tasteless, sort of dry and on a plain white bun, is well just average. Good shakes. Fries and onion rings are like many other places. Acutally kind of pricey for what you're getting. Nice for the locals who can't get out, but there are many, many better burgers out there.
