Jane and Michael Stern, authors of 'Eat Your Way Across the USA' and columnists for Gourmet magazine, think Kopp's has "simply the best frozen custard in the world." Apparently, Milwaukee eaters agree -- the three locations are never hurting for customers. There's chocolate and vanilla every day, with a special flavor that ranges from a decadent butter pecan to hot chocolate (with requisite mini-marshmallows and a dusting of cocoa).

Eat your dessert first, but save room for one of Kopp's giant sandwiches. The hamburgers are the size of paper plates, and chicken specialties like the Caliente or Buffalo go great with Kopp's French fry and onion ring mix. Kopp's does its part to help others, too. Every Thursday, the profits from "Thursday's Child" custard goes to UNICEF. Now, if that's not a good reason to get an extra scoop in your waffle cone, what is? -- Jessica Zierten

    Ok so I had their burgers many times and I wouldn't say they are number 1. I can't believe that the place that is truly #1 isn't listed and that is Mazo's. If there are people that don't know about Mazo's well they need to know. They have been around since 1934! Best burgers by far in town! It's located on 27th st. near Oklahoma ave. I have been going there ever since I was a little girl and I still go there! They also have great homemade soup, and the best malts! I highly recommend it!

    We do need a Kopps in Florida, but in Vero bEach or Fort Pirce. Love it and miss it almost every day. Used to work just a few blocks away before retireing

    Kopps has been the best in custard, and hamburgers since I was a child. And know that I'm older they are still the best. !!! Keep up the good work. !!!!!!!!!!!!
