Within months after starting up their Phinney Ridge operation in 1994, brother and sister burgermeisters John and Babe Shephard had to expand the space. Customers flocked to the flame-broiled fresh meat patties, toasted sesame-seed buns and the unique "special sauce" (a wonderfully smoky mayo). Burger lovers can start with the basic model: a quarter-pound patty with lettuce and sauce, or choose from among ten upgrades. These include the verde burger -- fire roasted Anaheim peppers with Monterey jack cheese and red onion slices, and the bleu cheese and bacon burger. You can also order chicken marinated in lemon-honey sauce, then flame-broiled in three varieties of burgers and a sandwich. The menu also includes BLTs and cheese sandwiches. There's even a vegetarian option: the garden burger deluxe. The thick shakes and cornmeal-battered onion rings, flecked with thyme, cumin and cayenne rank high on the comfort food list as well.

Excellent Burgers
My wife and I and daughter drove up to Seattle from Tacoma to try this burger place. We WERE NOT disappointed. We felt that this place has the best burgers we have ever eaten. :)
B.P.Bone Dry Burgers, Decent Fries and Shakes

Went there anticipating a great burger but went away vowing never to buy into online reviews again. in spite of the many staff and chefs behind the front counter the service was sluggish and close to unfriendly. No big deal really as I have learned to expect the less than caring demeanor that all too many of Seattle eating joints display. Our oder was ready after a 15 minute wait and we ordered just 2 cheeseburgers, one order of fires and a single berry shake. Sadly both of our burgers were just dry as a bone. They use bulk packed patties but they don't necessarily have to be cooked till they are bled of all juices. I did enjoy the berry shake and the fries but not enough to warrant a return trip. I can build a superior burger using non mystery quality meat at home for a lot less dough and in less time than it took to get my order ready. Look elsewhere for a better built burger. Kid Valley offers a tastier burger for a similar price.
King
Best burgers, shakes and fries in the whole area! Love the tartar sauce - they should bottle it. Everything is fresh, and the staff is super friendly and full of energy. Parking is tight but worth the effort when you taste the food. And no cell phone use allowed - yippee!
Ok burger, definitely not best

I read some great reviews and decided to try a Red Mill Burger. The Lettuce was super fresh and crisp, the tomato was a decent size, and the bun was good. The burger itself was a factory-pressed patty like the ones you can buy at the grocery store. I was very surprised that with all their good reviews they don't hand-press their hamburger patties.
Over-rated
We were looking for a great burger so I "Googled" top rated burgers in Seattle. All I can say is do NOT get cheese on your burger UNLESS you like salty, over-powering processed cheese. The "American" cheese Red Mill uses is beyond gross. It absolutely ruined the burger.
