A Seattle Institution Since the 1920's. Known for a Great Breakfast.
Mae's Phinney Ridge Cafe is open everyday, with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Enjoy a weekday lunch and breakfast everyday. We're proud of our fresh baked cinnamon rolls and biscuits that are produced in our on-site bakery. You'll like our coffee and espresso, fresh roasted with our very own coffee roaster. We also have a smoker that we use for smoking fresh trout and wild Alaska salmon. Our cold-smoke cheeses, available in the Smokin' Joe Omelet, can be added to any breakfast item. We serve biscuits and gravy by the boatload and our vegetarian mushroom gravy is even attractive to hard core meat-eaters. Although we're best known as a meaty joint, we have many meatless entrees on our menu including a Tofu Breakfast. Reservations are taken for parties of six or more. One hundred seats fill Mae's Phinney Ridge Cafe, so gather the herd and head over.

The Scene
On weekend mornings, the line outside Mae's is a microcosm of Seattle. Couples in athletic clothes, others in Birkenstocks, families with young children and even youths with varicolored hair, tattoos and body piercings. Diners wait in line for the same thing, namely a spot in one of four themed dining rooms--such as the fabled Moo Room or in the booth that looks like a giant mouth.
The Food
Breakfast is the specialty and it is served all day. Thanks to Paul Bunyan-sized portions of potatoes and toast (or a biscuit) served with almost every breakfast plate, no one leaves with an empty stomach. Pastry lovers should opt for the king-sized cinnamon rolls, while spud fans shouldn't miss a pile of potatoes topped with cheese, sour cream and salsa aptly dubbed "The Spud Fest." Add a milk shake for a truly decadent breakfast.

Worst breakfast ever
Judging by the crowds this may be an anomalyâ¦.but I had the WORST breakfast here ever. Coffee came quickly and was great. Waited and waited and when the eggs came they were cold, hash browns looked like they came from a box, were cold and burned, bacon likewise. But the huevos rancho were by FAR the worstâ¦..eggs were cold, a ladle of cold pureed tomatoes over the top and cold unmelted cheddar cheese grated over the top of all of thatâ¦.we sent the huevos ranchero back and they microwaved the whole mess!!! I used to bring my children hereâ¦.not any more.
Add CommentSo Overrated!
Mae's is SO OVER RATED! It is so not worth the wait on a weekend.
I find it so funny that people in Seattle who won't wait more than 20 minutes to get into a great dinner place will stand outside in the cold and rain and wait over an hour for eggs and pancakes.
Don't get me wrong, I love me some breakfast and I will wait for it (as long as I get good coffee while I wait) but Mae's is just not worth it.couter's Review
Great food, creative decor, a touch of the 50's, and heaping servings.
