"No Texas restaurant is more passionately local than Chef Monica Pope's new venture, t'afia." Gourmet Magazine, January 2005 CHEF MONICA POPE ? James Beard Award Nominee, Best Chef/Southwest, 2007 ? The only Texas woman chef to be named a Top 10 Best New Chef by Food & Wine Magazine, 1996 ?As a chef, I have spent the last 13 years cooking in one place ? Houston, Texas. My cooking style has developed organically from certain fundamental truths: first, what grows together goes together, and, second, that food simply tastes better when you eat where your food lives. For over ten years, I have supported local farmers, ranchers and food producers, and also helped found the Midtown Farmers Market (held at t'afia every Saturday)- these producers' efforts form the heart and soul of t'afia."

  • My mom and I were disappointed

for Mother's Day. Restaurtant was nice, but not at all what I was expecting from that wonderful write up. Bellini was somewhat watery and blah. No visual shrimp and scallop in the so named soup.

Beef carpaccio salad and trout w/ egg, good. And that was curdled cream in my coffee, not because the "freshest cream hit the very hot coffee".

I just saw it and let me say one thing...BOOOOOOO!!! The story was just horrible. I was bored throughout the movie, and was waiting for it to end. MJ singing...PLEASE STOP THE HORROR!! There was not one redeeming character in the whole movie. And what made this worse...I LOVED spiderman 1 and 2. Sam Raimi should stick to directing and have absolutely nothing to do with writing screen plays...and nepotism destroys movies. The only thing to watch this movie for is the special effects and fight scenes. But I would rather watch clips of that then be forced to watch this crap again. But the story line was just so bad. It really competes with Batman and Robin for the worst movie of all time.

I consider myself a "regular" at t'afia -- I dine there at least once a week. The menu changes a little bit every day and the ingredients that Pope uses are local, fresh, seasonal and almost always organic. I think the prices are really reasonable with a lot of $5 and $10 choices. The staff has been with Pope for many years and their knowledge, professionalism and caring sets them apart from most restaurants. T'afia is already a Houston institution in my book. A "must-visit" on anyone's list! (And to the reviewer below, you live in Houston - those big flying roaches are just a way of life here. Get over it!).
