Folk music in a strip mall? Sounds like something of an oxymoron, what with anti-establishment being the creed of so many singer-songwriters wielding an acoustic guitar. But somehow, Vienna's Jammin' Java seems to have pulled it off. Brother owners Luke and Daniel Brindley bought the place, once a Christian coffeehouse, in late 2001. Within a few short months they had a decent musical lineup and a thriving clientele. Both can be credited to the brothers' love of and dedication to music: The coffeehouse/club hosts musicians every night of the week; there is a state-of-the-art sound studio on the premises; instrument lessons are offered; and the place houses a guitar shop. Both Brindleys are musicians themselves and often take to their own stage.
While folk music has been the focus, jazz and blues mix in courtesy of national and local acts. The once monthly (first Thursday), all- acoustic "Woodsongs" showcase -- associated with a syndicated radio show of the same name -- offers an opportunity to hear little known folk acts, and a weekly open mike night (Mondays) hosted by local singer-songwriter Steve Key offers a space for newbies.
Although this is a coffeehouse with a serious array of coffees, beer and wine are also available. Nightlife in the suburbs has rarely been this good. -- J.E. Coan

intimate setting
love this place. the ambiance is relaxed, the stage and audience are up close and personal, the acts are great, and the staff is two steps past accomodating: the show i went to was sold out, but they made room, and the bartender replaced a drink after she decided (on her own) that it didn't taste quite right. overall, two thumbs up.

I am an official "Jammin' Java Junkie"! i'm always there! i check for good shows there all the time. I am known by the emploeies i go there so much. I discovered one of my favorite artists there. my friends and i even have our own table we sit at every time. to top off of the good times and great music they have the best hot chocolate and apple pie. If all of this doesn't make vienna not boring i don't know what could. Jammin' Java is the one thing i like about Vienna Virgina. YOU SHOULD GO (I LOVE SHANE HINES!!!!!!)
Excellent Music Venue
Jammin' Java is a wonderful little venue and a well kept secret in some regards, I hesitated in writing this review at first as I'd hate to see the thing so packed I could not get in...
The place has great acoustics and any seat in the place is a good one. The food is excellent, especially the chili and sandwhiches, and the carrot cake and espresso drinks are yummy! I've seen Rathkeltair, Wolfstone, Tempest, and Al Petteway and Amy White perform here, and I will go back many more times!UpEarlyTryingHar's Review
JJ is just tops. The
chile kicks, there's a
decent beer list, the
coffee drinks are as
good as SB. But the
music, that's what is
just amazing. What
did we ever do without
JJ??? If you like live
music, all types (have
an open mind and
you'll find something
new), and a place you
can usually just drop
by and find a seat,
there's nothing better.RichardandFrieda's Review

Topnotch entertainment in a comfortable environment. Coffee with chairs and chow in front and super room for entertainers in back. Light fare - sandwiches, chilis, salad, dip, snacks - goes well with coffee, beer or wine while relaxing outside, in or during a show. Put it on your A List!!
