Always crowded no matter when you come, all-brick Mike's (another offering from the Great American Restaurants chain that includes Artie's, Carlyle and Sweetwater Tavern) is the epitome of the casual American eatery where mighty portions rule. You can choose to pass the time in the lively downstairs bar, but if you want to eat seriously, you'll be escorted to an upstairs table. If you're lucky, you'll secure a table near the kitchen where you can get a close-up of the cooks at work. (The restaurant, which averages long wait times, doesn't take reservations; but it's strongly recommended you call ahead to be put on a list shortly before you arrive.)
The menu features a variety of food, like the Tex-Mex egg rolls. The bacon-cheddar burger is a must; the steaks are good, too. Other homey foods include grilled pork chops and the deep-dish apple pie.
Kids are welcomed here (and pampered by the friendly servers), and they'll love the crispy French fries that accompany almost every dish.

Mike's is the best!
Been going to Mike's since they opened. Although I missed a
couple of years while eating at Great Americans newer offerings,
going to Mike's is like going home again. It is such a beautiful restaurant. The food is always great, and if you don't think it is, all
you have to do is say so and it will be replaced, pronto. I don't
know of any other restaurants other than Great American that
are so intent on making sure their customers leave satisfied.
No wonder (I am certain) they are on of the most succesful
privately owned restaurant company's in America! Their team
approach to service leaves you waiting for just about nothing.
Nothing worse than waiting for your beverage for 10 minutes
after your food arrives. Never happens at Mike's. Sometimes I wish the menu was a bit more varied at all G.A.'s places, but I
realize keeping it somewhat simple is a big part of their success.Add CommentLUNCH TIME PERFECTION!!!!
I just returned from lunch at Mike's and let me tell you that it was lunch time perfection. As we entered, we're greeted my 2 lovely smiling hostesses. We catch the glass elevator upstairs where another lovely hostess is wating to seat us. Very attentive servers that work in tandem cater to your every need even before you have to ask. And the food was superb. The meaty smoky saucy ribs are to die for. The warm complimentary bread.... The warm chocolate waffle with ice cream for desert. I thought I had died and gone to heaven as they say. If you're in the springfield area, and you ask yourself the question what's for lunch? I suggest that you head on over to Mike's because it's LUNCHTIME PERFECTION!!!!
Mike's rocks!
I went to the opening of Mike's, before it opened to the general public........from first exp. to the latest, the food has been excellent every single time! We really love the atmospere too.....I've moved away to Maryland but will make the trip for the great dining, service and memories! The deserts are to die for!

We had to move away from DC 5 years ago, and my wife and I miss Mike's! The blackened prime rib, the jambalaya pasta, the great green salads with the corn and crumpled bleu cheese--mmmmm! Next time I'm in the area, I'll head straight to Mike's.

I live 45 minutes away and will make the journey 9 times out of 10 because of how great everything ALWAYS is. I've never experienced a restaurant this consistent with great food for apps, main courses, and desserts. I take all my friends there and recommend Mike's to strangers.

I had a business meeting there last night. The food was VERY good and so was the atmosphere. Our waiter was absolutely wonderful. Being my first time, I got a very good impression of this restaurant and I plan to meet there more often.

I usually visit on Sunday afternoons. Didn't have to wait long. Very noisy on last visit, especially crying babies. You must try the meatloaf and mashed potatoes-excellent!
Jenn8085's Review

The service sucks, the restaurant is loud and there is always a long wait. The food is decent - a little pricy, however. I am not sure if it is worth the long wait and bad service.
