Tucked away in the Westover neighborhood of Arlington is a small pizza restaurant, bar and deli with a big-time menu. The Lost Dog Cafe is infamous with locals for its 50-plus types of sandwiches, long list of signature gourmet pizzas and more than 200 beers from 20 different countries. Pizza favorites include the Sardegna, topped with marinated chicken breast chunks, garlic, olives, capers, onions, Parmesan, mozzarella and rosemary, and the Greek Pie, topped with tomato sauce, spinach, onions, tomatoes, black olives, feta, mozzarella and basil. If you're a white-pizza lover, you'll be crazy about the assortment of pies whose ingredients start with garlic butter, Parmesan, mozzarella and fontina. Lost Dog's huge selection of inexpensive eats also includes under-$5 appetizers such as onion rings and artichoke dip.

The location is small but cozy with an old-fashioned bar and wooden booths. If you're getting your food to-go from the bustling carryout side of the joint, grab some cold beer from one of the several fridges before your order gets rung up at the counter.

The restaurant gets its name from its owners' commitment to rescuing dogs. The Lost Dog Cafe also sells dog biscuits for you to bring home to your pooch. -- Robbin Zeff

Great pizza, but everything else was terrible: Slow service, Extremely noisy (we were literally had to yell to communicate with each other) and we were sat in a cramped back room, which made overwhelming noise even more annoying.

This I believe is my favorite place to eat in the area. They have great pizzas... Every pizza I have tried has been delicious, their subs are to die for, and the atmosphere is great. If you are a dog lover they have fun paintings of dogs all over the walls. Even though there is an extensive selection of beers there is a limit to the number of drinks so there are never any people horribly drunk and even at the loudest it's been it is still very tolerable. It is a well run, very fun, and amazingly tasty place.

I love the Lost Dog. Great beer selection and the best pizza in town. The Whippit and Greek Pie are awesome!

Agree totally with post by rpdwoman. Too crowded, too loud, too dirty. Has a faux hippie/college frosh ambience that's grating to the max. To add insult to injury, there's nothing really special about their food.

I did not think it was so great. I have had better sandwiches elsewhere in the area. I found the place to be dirty and just too noisey. And I really didnt like sitting in the back with no windows. Just a bit too confined for me. Wont go back.

I was really excited to try this place. While house-sitting in Arlington, I called and ordered a vegetarian pizza. When it arrived, it looked deliscious. However it was raw and runny. It wasn't cheap either. I had to recook it. It wasn't a good experience. I ended up eating a few pieces because I was starving, but my arm would have to be seriously twisted to eat there again.

Been going to the LDC since they opened. Best beer selection west of the Brickskeler. Great staff. Consistent and creative food. Pam and Ross do it right!

Great selection of beers and sandwiches. The pizza is always a winner. Yes, the pizza can stand on its own. The choices of toppings are wide and varied. Beer!! Every sandwich I have tried was very different and tastey
