When you want melt-in-your-mouth rotisserie chicken, go directly to El Pollo Rico in Arlington. This place is all about fabulous chicken served fast, friendly and at a fantastically inexpensive price. Chicken is the only entree on the menu. Your options are simple: quarter of a chicken, half a chicken or a whole chicken. The chicken is cooked in large, flame-broiled rotisserie ovens located right behind the counter.

Owner Victor Solano brought his authentic Peruvian chicken recipe from the old country. The mixture of spices is a family secret, known to the restaurant's large clientele as sheer perfection. All orders come with large steak fries, coleslaw and two sauces. The steak fries are a half-inch wide and a quarter-inch thick and fried to a golden crispy perfection. The sauces are distinctly Peruvian: One is a hot green chili sauce and the other a milder tangy mayonnaise base. It's counter-only service to insure you get your food within minutes of ordering.

Bigger is better with El Pollo Rico's Kenmore Street location. The dining room has plenty of room to seat any size party immediately, from two to 10 people. The Solano family has another location in Wheaton owned by Victor's brother Francisco. -- Robbin Zeff

  • Most Incredible Chicken EVER!

    Review rating : 5out of 5   Sarah1676 - 03/11/2009

I've never eaten more moist and flavorful chicken in my life (sorry, mom)! It is absolutely amazing and incredibly inexpensive for the amount of food you get (Under $15 for a whole chicken, fries and coleslaw)!

This place is one of the best eateries in Arlington! The chicken has real flavor and the prices are low. A quarter chicken with french fries and colslaw is $5.00 (At the time of this post ).
Forget trying to go there for a lunch at Noon. The line can back out the door. I try to be there by 11:00 for lunch and get mine to go. There is seating inside for probably 75 people or so.
I hope the bust of the Wheaton Md. store doesn't affect Arlington's. Seems the Md. shop had too many illegals working there.

  • THIS PLACE DOES IT RIGHT!!!!

    Review rating : 5out of 5   Nfanmail - 06/11/2008

What can I say except read any of the other reviews. Fast service and that unique South American staple chartcoal brioled chicken with Peru's distinctive spicing. Follow your nose, the charcoal broiler can be smelled blocks before you get to the place and when you do......."YUM! YUM!! EAT 'EM UP!!"

  • Best Chicken

The only reason this place has not gotten better revues is because you have not tried it.

  • Don't Pass this place up!!!

    Review rating : 5out of 5   timsea11 - 05/18/2007

This is the best chicken I have ever tasted. Their neighbors next door Super Chicken is excellent also. If you want to sit and eat go to Super Chicken. You can't go wrong with either place El Pollo or Super Chicken in regards to taste of the food. I used to work in the Silver Spring area and would go to lunch almost everyday to either at Pollo or Super. I have relocated north of Baltimore and don' t hesitate to drive almost 50 miles for this chicken on the weekends when I have a chance. This place is a bargin also. You can get one of the best tasting meals you have ever had for around $6. Food is better than any 5 star restaurant.

  • Absolutely the BEST

    Review rating : 5out of 5   jstrube96 - 03/02/2007

I heard rave reviews from co-workersm but even they under-praised the taste here. Not much atmosphere, but great food!

  • Simply the GREATEST

    Review rating : 5out of 5   bigdiablo76 - 02/20/2007

This is ABSOLUTELY THE GREATEST chiken I have ever tasted in my life, I live near Wheaton Plaza and drive around the area a lot and you can always smell the chicken from blocks away. I have friends in Baltimore that drive 45 minutes to an hour just to eat at El Pollo Rico.

  • THE BEST PERUVIAN CHICKEN.

    Review rating : 5out of 5   superflysmoothc - 02/15/2007

I'M ASIAN AND I TELL YOU THIS. I'VE TASTED A LOT OF PERUVIAN CHICKEN AND THEY'RE THE BEST. THIS IS ACCURATE REVIEW. TRUST ME.. IF YOU LIVE IN MARYLAND. GO TO WHEATON, MD ACROSS THE STREET OF WHEATON PLAZA OR NEAR THE U.S. SALVATION THRIFT STORE. THEY'RE ALWAYS BUSY AND THEY ALWAYS HAVE A LONG LINE. THIS IS A BIG FRANCHISE..IF YOU CARRY OUT, THEY LOAD YOU WITH FRIES AND I MEAN THEY OVER STUFF YOUR LUNCH BOX TILL IT BREAKS. AND THE SUCCULENT SMELL OF THE AROMA TOPS IT ALL...YOU ALL NEED TO TRY THIS PERFECT 5 STARS.

  • Good Overall

    Review rating : 3out of 5   coronito22 - 01/30/2007

Chicken has a good seasoning and is fairly juicy. One of the better peruvian chicken places in the area. During the lunch hour when it is the most busy, the chicken can be a little inconsistent. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the chicken. The dinning area is bare and simple however visitors don't go for the atmosphere. I prefer going to Pollo Campero for a latin chicken experience near Bailey'sCrossroads, they have the best chicken in the DC Area, hands down.
