Belly up to a lunch or dinner plate at this informal eatery, and you'll be treating yourself to what many locals feel is the best barbecue in San Antonio. Unlike many so-called barbecue restaurants, Rudy's boasts sauceless and unhurried meat preparation. Rather than dousing cooked meat with barbecue sauce, Rudy's uses a zesty 'dry rub' of select spices before cooking. Finally, the meat is cooked on an oak wood fired pit. Of course, if you must have barbecue sauce, Rudy's Original BBQ "Sause" will do the job. Among the most popular menu items sold here are slow-roasted St. Louis pork ribs, brisket, barbecued turkey and -- surprisingly -- homemade creamed corn. The several dining rooms are colorful, spacious and just big enough to hold a multitude of barbecue lovers. Rudy's memorable marketing slogan is "The Worst Bar-B-Q in Texas." Try it, however, and you'll wholeheartedly disagree. -- Chris Jones

I visited San Antonio a few years ago. My brother lived just outside of the city, and he took me for lunch at Rudy's. I had the brisket, and it was wonderful. The sides were also delicious. Hard to find good tender brisket, but Rudy's had it!

Rudy's is actually named after my great-grandmothers father so we used to eat there quite a bit. She passed away last year so I don't get to go to Rudy's any more but if you get a chance to go please do. The food there is astounding!

I had the opportunity to taste Rudy's Food on 2 occassions in the past 3 weeks. Once in Austin, and again in Elpaso. The food was to die for, the atmosphere was everything you could want in a family style eatery.
