Combing a lively bistro atmosphere with a little bit of grandeur has proved incredibly successful for P.F. Chang's, the Chinese chain that blankets the country like a fine hoisin sauce. Chefs working in the exhibition kitchen retain the aspects of Chinese food much-loved by American fans -- fresh vegetables, savory meats and pervasive citrus flavors -- all at moderate prices. Cantonese Roasted Duck with steamed wheat buns enlivens a menu well-stocked with favorites like Kung Pao Chicken. An Asian influence shows up, too, in curry dishes. With 50 plus wines on the list, vegetarian and gluten-free menus, too, P.F. Chang's aims to please the culinary children of the '90s, who want the convenience of a mall with the virtuosity of a maestro. -- E. M. Wolff

  • party of eight, wait almost 2 hrs!

I like the food because they dress up the dishes with variations that's not typical Chinese, (Asian). But don't ever go with a big party. They made us wait an hour and 45 mins, so we left: they came out running after us, saying the table was ready. We didn't go back in. That really ruined a special celebration!

  • Good Chain Food

Good "fast food". Not authentic. Very nice restaurant and great service. Long waits Thursday-Saturday, evenings.

Agasin mexicans being the majority in san antonio, they have no clue as to other foods especially chinese or other asian foods. They trictly goby how much food you get for the dollar. Try Hung Fong, Ding How and see who is better.

  • Good But Pretentious

    Review rating : 3out of 5   Kpchprather4 - 06/17/2008

PF Chang's is not a local phenomenon. It's a chain, which in and of itself lowers its rating for me. I actually like the food-but it's not authentic asian. It is what it is. Enjoyable. Love the chicken lettuce wraps. If you can go in with the right attitude (and the right time because it gets crowded on weekends) and know you're going to get good food in a rather over the top ambiance, it's enjoyable. Funny thing about San Antonian's-the pretentiousness of half the crowd. One would think PF Chang's was the "next big thing" in Hollywood the way some patrons dress and carry themselves. It's just a slightly overpriced chain american version of asian food that delivers good food at a slightly inflated price. O.K. - I admit it, part of the fun for me at PF Changs is soaking in the self-important nuveau riche and 20 somethings act so self important while eating at a chain restaurant. That and the lettuce wraps.

  • Not great

The restaurant itself has beautiful decor but that doesn't soothe the fact that the food lacks passion in its taste.

  • Over hyped

    Review rating : 2out of 5   concededcutiepie - 09/24/2006

First of all most the dishes are served without soup, which comes pretty standard with every other chinese restaurant. Then I've tried 3 different dishes and they taste ok at first but by the time you've taken a few mouthfuls your already tired of the flavor, way to bland. Otherwise every other aspect seems to be really good, waitstaff, cleaness, just doesn't even come close to being in my top 10 chinese places to eat, recommend trying somewhere else.

  • bad service uncooked rice

    Review rating : 2out of 5   mooners793 - 06/25/2006

i was very embrassed when all our previous visits were stellar, to take friends for a celebration that a bad waiter and uncooked brown rice , among other things could have embrasssed us so much. it will be a vey long time before we go back, hopefully by then the problems should have been taken care up. to think we went during the week thinking there would be no problems.
