Along the banks of the San Antonio River, but far from the famous River Walk, is one of the town's finest dining experiences. This casual restaurant, small but open, is decorated in traditional Japanese style. As you look out upon the park, you might even forget you are in the city. A table by the window is worth the wait, but the more adventurous will want to grab a seat at the sushi bar. The menu offers sushi and sashimi along with other Japanese dishes, all presented with great style. You especially will enjoy the fresh meats and vegetables from the yakitori grill. Beer and wine are available or, if you wish, a warm sake to accent your delightful meal. -- Douglas Gessaman

Don't believe the haters
Koi Kawa is wonderful! If it was better in the past, I can't really remember it being all that different. Fresh sushi and sashimi, wonderful taste. It is a little slow for service, but the waiters are very authentic. It's much better than when you're at some place and when you order "unagi" they look at you like you have a third eye.
Add Commenthorrible
i remember DAVID!! Its true when he moved to Corpus, the entire restaurant went to ****! They cant understand you, and its not the place you go to if you want good sushi in a decent amount of time.
The Best Sushi Bar in Town!

I have gone to those so called "sushi bars" with their cream cheese rolls, and by far Koi Kawa is the best place in town. They have chefs that actually know about sushi and really authentic Japanese food. I recently went in and the place was filled with Japanese people, I asked the chef what was going on and he told me that it was a Japanese Oil Convention and that they make reservations up to a year in advance! If that doesn't tell you that this is the place to go for authentic Japanese food I don't know what will.
Not like the past
They used to have a manager and sushi chef named David, that made this place humm with quality, service and good feelings. Since his departure, it has never been able to pull itself back up - too bad.
Don't compare the two...

Broadway location is fine...fresh, good service. Quarry was a disaster. Waited more than an hour for our order...never went back. If you're hungry, sit at the "conveyer belt" ... and don't wait for table service.

After over and hould and a half wait on a slow weekday we finally got our sushi. Maybe it lost its freshness somewhere in the the wait! Nice place but over rated.
