When Big Lou's Pizza moved to a larger location in December 2004, some thought its larger dining area and bigger kitchen would create significantly shorter wait times for its customers. However, when you consistently serve up what some pizza lovers consider to be among the city's best pizza, mouth-watering anticipation is often part of the dining experience. Weekend customers of Big Lou's at times wait a couple of hours for one of its popular pies. Of course, Big Lou's regulars find ways around thls. Ordering ahead by phone is one of them. For large parties, Big Lou's offers a mammoth 37'' pie. Because the average exterior doorway width is only 36 inches, this menu item presents a problem. (Can you say "dine-in only," boys and girls?) There are also pizza wraps and a limited selection of pasta that includes lasagna. Its friendly atmosphere is very much part of the Big Lou's experience. Inside you'll find the warmth of wood paneling, quirky artwork and flat screen TV monitors on the walls. The restaurant's owners often acknowledge regular guests by name and are not above stepping out of the kitchen to chat up the hungry masses. You can finish off your meal with a refreshing margarita, beer or mixed drink.

REALLY??

WOW!!. I amazed at all the petty complaints people actually take the time post. Gratuity for large parties....seriously? Waiting for fresh made piping hot pie...seriously?
I have traveled the U.S. and sampled some great pizza and calzones and I put Big Lou's up against any of them! I have been eating at Big Lou's since the beginning when it was only a half dozen picnic tables that made up the dining room and it just keeps getting better all the time. (I was in last week and the pizza dough is even crisper now due to a new method of baking). You will still find the calzones hard to beat...made with only the best cheeses!
Big Lou's funky little atmosphere is the family owned restuarant's niche and keeping it in the "neighborhood" may be the double edged sword but they won't have it any other way. There size is limited but they are planning a large dining room expansion in the near future that will help alleviate the wait time to be seated but the serving times will never be what you get at a burger or mexican joint. Each pie is made from scratch per your order and the order it goesa in the oven is based on the number of people in front of your order. It pretty simple math and if you want warmed pizza waiting for you I suggest the mall food courts because it will never be served at Big Lou's.
Rude waitstaff....I could see it happening, look at some of the people that complain here and then imagine what their average day is like with people and their unrealistic expectations but the owner??....the only way this guy is getting rude is in total last resort self defense.
The bottom line you want pizza and only have 30 minutes stick with the pizza hut buffet, you want one of the best pizza's in this area, come to Big Lou's and relax.
For those that claim limited menu, stop by and look again..they even added homemade cannoli's that are to die for!!!!
You want a real treat, order a super calzone and be prepared for the best meal you ever eat!!!Add CommentWe decided not to eat there

My family (my wife, I, and our 13 year old grandson) and my daughters (She, her husband, thd their 11 and 10 yerar old children) walked in, ordered our pizza, then were told that we would have to pay a 15% tip because we were a party of 6 or more. I only give 15% for superb service, so I declined. I told them that we would sit at different tables, and we were told they might not be together (probably not). We decided that we would not be pushed into having to leave 15%. The tip is an incentive to do well. If they get it automatically, how good of a job do you think they do? And 15% for carrying food one way, and bringing a round of drinks is absurd. I love their pizza, but I'll get it to go.
Good Pizza? Yes - Woth it? Absolutely not!

The pizza, while good, isn't worth putting up with the rude staff and owner.
You have to place your order before they will put you on the list for a table, but donât expect your drinks until you get to the table. If you want a drink, go to the bar, but I warn you, it isnât service with a smile. We go to the bar and the bartender immediately tells us we can't have a 14 and 7 year old in the bar area while we ordered our drinks - we had to send them to the other room. The whole while, he allows a boy of maybe 11 to stand there for more than an hour. After about 45 minutes we get a table and soon after, the pizza arrives at our table. The pizza was good but they were skimpy on the mushrooms. There is no wait staff to speak of in that there are no waiters. Everything is ordered and paid for ahead of time. They have runners who bring the pizza to the table and show up twice - the first time to ask if you need a refill on your drink and the second to ask if you have any problems. Yes - not â âIs there anything else you need? â But, "Do you have any problems?" Our answer was no, everything was fine. During this exchange, we notice that the owner was blatantly standing behind the girl with two people waiting to clear our table. We were there to celebrate a birthday and were in the middle of opening cards and sharing conversation, while the birthday boy continued to eat. Well I guess they didn't like our answer because "Lou" then positioned himself in the other room and essentially stared us down for the next 10 to 15 minutes until we finally left. As we left, my husband took Louâs hand and said we won't be back.
If you are in for a novelty experience - go to Big Lou's - if you want a good family experience and good pizza - go to your nearest Double Dave's and order the thin crust where the staff is always nice and you have some games to entertain the kids to boot. Thanks
After reading these reveiws I have decided NOT to visit Lou's, I 'm flying from California to visit some family in Round Rock and also visit the Alamo and couldnt come up with a place to eat, so now after reading how rude the staff are at Lou's I have decided to eat Puffy Tacos!
What a Terrible Attitude!
I watched a segment today on TV about your restaurant. I came online to see your site because your pizzas looked so impressive. I cannot believe how hateful that message sounded to the lady who found a hair. Even if she did it herself--do you think the tone of your response sounded good to those of us who don't know any of you??!! Maybe you feel you have enough business and don't need or want any new customers. If that's the case--you have acomplished your task. Then reading the email from the guy who couldn't even get the cashier to crack a smile AND they were told to leave after being in the restaurant an hour and a half--hmmm. Sounds like the owners, the management, the hired help (or family if it's a family run place) need some classes in customer satisfaction and people skills...most especially this pizza maker who answers the web complaints with such nasty responses. Not good business to be so hateful to people.
GOOD FOOD HORRIBLE MANNERS

THE FOOD IS GOOD. BUT I MUST SAY WE WERE TOLD TO LEAVE BECAUSE WE HAD BEEN THERE TOO LONG....WE HAD BEEN THERE FOR 1 HOUR AND 25 MINUTES (NOT TO MENTION WAITING FOR 20 MINUTES JUST TO GET A DRINK, BUT I DIDN'T COMPLAIN) STILL WE WERE TOLD WE WERE THERE FOR 3 HOURS AND OBVIOUSLY THE "PERSON" HAD THE WRONG TIME!!!!! WE EVEN SHOWED HER OUR RECEIPT AT WHAT TIME WE PLACED THE ORDER. IT'S REALLY SAD THAT A PLACE LIKE THIS CAN HAVE SUCH UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF! THE "GIRL" AT THE FRONT COUNTER COULDN'T EVEN CRACK A SMILE, EVEN AS HARD AS I TRIED TO BE NICE! THAT REALLY STINKS! I HAVE A HARD TIME GIVING MY HARD EARNED MONEY TO PEOPLE WHO ARE GROUCHY! IT WAS A LONG WEEK AND WE "ALL" WORK HARD, SO WHY BE SO RUDE??????? HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!! SORRY YOU GUYS CAN'T BE HAPPY WITH SUCH A BUSY PLACE, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!!
Addressing The Lady With The Bad Weave !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry you feel that Big Lou's didn't handle the hair situation properly, when you finish the whole pizza then claim you found a hair it looks suspicious. I took a look at the hair and it was clear that it was yours, because all of my cooks have hair nets on and I don't have a cook with hair that long and all of my front workers have their hair up in pony tails. I handled your complaint and know one ever told you to get the hell out of here and know one called you a liar. I looked at the hair and it was dry with no grease or sauce on it, it could have easily fallen from your head or somebody passing by your table. I don't know how educated you are but the average human looses at least 100 strands of hair a day . If you wanted a hand out all you had to do is ask I have plenty of scraps you could have had or I could have dropped you off at the Sam Shelter. We have one of the cleanest most sanitary kitchens in San Antonio, we also won the blue plate award and just scored a 99 on our last health score. I am really glad that you are not going to come back to our restaurant because I feel that you probably do this all the time. It's one thing to have a legitimate complaint it's another thing to falsely accuse just so you can get something for free. I bet you didn't expect to find a restaurant that wouldn't buy in to your scam. Good luck scamming other restaurants ,but just remember you reap what you sow ,everything comes back full circle.
Never again!!!

The pizza that we ordered and had eaten, had long "BLACK" hairs stuck between the pan and the pizza. When we brought it to the manager and assistant manager's attention, their response was that they didn''t know where the hair came from because there was noone in the kitchen with black hair, so they called us liars and suggested that we put the hair in the food in order to get a free meal, when we had already paid over $100 on this huge lousy "Hairy" pizza. The manager said "Get the hell out, all you want is a free meal!" I would not recommend this place to anyone who is very diligent about the cleanliness and sanitation on the prepartion of their food. The management SUCKS and they have no respect or concern for their customers!!!!
