Perhaps it was its top rating in Playboy, or maybe it's the diversity of the two top bars under one roof, but many still believe that for a downtown Saturday night done up right, the Mercury Room is a big, huge, M-U-S-T.

So, the valet is understaffed, you'll probably have to wait in line and the cover charge can be downright painful, but once you're in, you're IN. Faced with a choice between the lavish, balcony-clad, DJ-infused Boca Bar and the bar below that is the Mercury Room, you'd better hit the first bar you see and make your call. Once you go downstairs, there's no coming up for air. Actually, you're free to come and go as you choose between the two bars, but once entranced by the live Motown tunes pouring out of the speakers, you'll probably find yourself more than content.

The spacious downstairs seems anything but. It's usually packed to the brim with young hipsters. You can gather, lounge or dance, but don't expect a lot of elbow room in which to do so. Nevertheless, enjoy, for Playboy has spoken, and the Mercury Room is one of the finest.

    This club is always slammin!!
    They alwasy have Celebrities here as well as awesome events!!!

    I truly enjoyed the experience. Kyle Turner and his band were wonderful. The room was a true Jazz lounge. I'm telling all my freinds about it. More Jazz days would be nice.

    Les & the Funk band was out standing we're told that they would becoming back. I would return for them. The wait staff was very rude. But I would return for the band only..

    On Saturday, June 21, 2003. I had a b-day gathering at the M-Room for about 25 people. had talked with the event/party coordinator and was given misleading information about the cover charge being waived for each of my guest. I created a chic initation sent it out to over 50 people only to discover that they only meant that two of my guest would be complimentary. Now they are collecting $10 a head on top of all the money being made on drinks. The money was no big issue because my guest are mature professionals. However, I had been warned by one of guest that some establishments tell you that to get the people there and then change the story. Despite my appeals to the management, it was met with a very inflexible and less than customer friendly attitude. Despite all of this ordeal,I commend the band"Clockwork for doing a fantastic job of making a frustrating night fantastic. As for the M-Room, I have suggested to all my friends not to return and to spread the word about the managements lack of customer service.

    This is such a great place! It's the most happening place downtown and has been for awhile. It's one of the last of the original downtown clubs and there's a reason. Beatiful people, quick service and great music... couldn't ask for anyrthing more... keep up the good work!

    Nope, it's not that hard to get in unless you show up after 12. On the other hand, they tend to close off the upstairs dance floor at 2 right before they kick everyone else out. If you can get in the dance room, they have let people drag it out until 3 before.... Drinks are through the roof- sometimes up to $12-14 for the good stuff (beer is usually around $6), so stop off somewhere else first and have a few. Overall it is fun with a group, but too loud to really talk. Boca bar section tends to be too many overdressed yuppie guys trying to find some action...
