Since the opening of their first restaurant in Houston, Texas in 1970, the Wang family has consistently served first-rate Hunan and Szechuan cuisine from their homemade recipes. The atmosphere is understated elegance with crisp white linens and candlelight against the background of gleaming walnut paneling, beveled mirrors and crystal chandeliers. The candlelight illuminates the upscale decor and beautifully lavish Chinese paintings, adding to the intimate atmosphere.     Wow. That was the most disappointing chinese food I think we've ever had in our lives. My boyfriend, who will eat just about anything, even refused to take a second bite. They are closed, but in the morning we are bringing everything except the dumplings (just needed jelly and you have a pb&j) and greasy egg rolls(because it's the only two decent items in the order...and we were very hungry) back for a refund. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!

    I lunch there often, always excellent. Clean and very upscale, yet very reasonably priced! Love those white table cloths.

    I can't say enough good things about Shanghai River. Located on Westheimer near Kirby. Wonderful food, beautiful interior, owners & staff very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. It is, by far, my favorite chinese restaurant in Houston. Many of my chinese friends frequent it. Plenty of free parking. I believe they work with a delivery service for local area (although I haven't used it). I enjoy both eating in house and carry out. Highly recommend Kung Pao Chicken/Shrimp and Spring Rolls.

    Wonderful is the only way to describe the Shanghai River.
