It's almost eerie the way Pei Wei (pronounced Pay Way) Asian Diners keep sprouting up around Texas like Shiitake mushrooms in full bloom. Named after Pei Wei Jeng, the refugee son of a Chinese master chef, the eatery is a quick-service, chip-off-the-block of P.F. Chang's China Bistro. Service is designed to be efficient; you order at the counter, take a seat, set out your token and wait a few minutes for your meal to be delivered. For obvious reasons, takeout is also a popular option. Choose from regular or signature Asian dishes in the form of noodle and rice bowls and stir-fries (configurations and prices vary according to the meat selection). For those on a health kick, ample opportunity exists to build a virtuous meal around vegetables, especially the salads. That said, we still prefer pan-friend pork potstickers served up before diving into coconut-milk laden chicken curry, sizzling shrimp pad thai or blazing beef chow fun noodles. Like the old cliche about the unpredictable weather in Texas, if you don't have a Pei Wei Asian Diner in your neighborhood right now, just wait a few minutes, and you might.

By the way, its not CHI-NESE...its ASIAN food...Its a variety of dishes from several of the pacific rim countries. It's not meant to be the nasty little Mom and Pop Chinese restaurant down the street where they use cheap inferior products, tons of MSG and charge you an arm and a leg for a bunch of rice and bok choy. Pei Wei pretty much prepares your food right there on the grill in front of you if you want to stand there and watch. Otherwise, you sit and its ready in just a few minutes. We usually have the Mongolian chicken which is a lovely blend of glazed sauces on chicken served on your choice of white, brown, or fried rice. It is yummy as are the spring rolls and the crab puffs and several other dishes that we have tried. 2 can eat on 1 dish fairly easily for about $10. Always dependable and always delicious!

  • Love Those Asian Lettuce Wraps and the Japanese Noodles!

If you're sick and tired of the same old kind of fast food, then you DEFINITELY need to give the Pei Wei on either Buffalo Speedway or The Woodlands a try! I've been to both and although the one in The Woodlands didn't carry my fave Japanese Ordo Noodles, it was still as good as the other one! My food has always been the freshest and the Orange Tea is incredible and always fresh...served up with freshly squeezed orange slices, it will tantalize the tastebuds of even the most discriminating palate! And besides, for those of us who can't always afford it's parent company; P.F. Chang's; it's less offensive to the pocketbook than P.F. Chang's! Bottom line; it's CHEAP and VERY FAST for those of us who are ALWAYS on the go!!!

In a city with hundreds of quality Chinese restaurants, and thousands of great places to eat, why woould anyone want to go to this cookie-cutter version of "Chinese" food that isn't really even Chinese?!

Pei Wei is just a faster version of PF Changs. It has a little bit of a different menu but it is still absolutely delicious! This is more of a non-family style version. Try their To-Go because they box it up very well and are very generous with the condiments.
