A warm and inviting upscale trattoria, The Grotto serves authentic Southern Italian cuisine, specializing in traditional dishes from the Bay of Naples. This lively restaurant is set in the style of a contemporary villa, with brick arches, polished wooden beams and star-like lighting. Festive wall murals depict diners and masqueraders enjoying food and friends at the seaside. The center of the room is occupied by Il Forno, the wood burning pizza oven, and The Grotto's huge antipasto display. Antipasti are ordered per person and include your choice of vegetables, cheeses, shellfish and salami. The Grotto's outstanding menu reflects seasonal availabilities of the freshest ingredients from Italy and Houston and features an impressive array of fish, chicken, veal, shellfish and beef dishes. For a taste of old Napoli, try the ciambatta di frutti di mare, a traditional shellfish stew in an herbed pomodoro sauce. Save room for a sweet treat, like the strawberry and ricotta angel-food bombe. -- Chase Hamblin

The food is good, not great! The tables are far too crowded for a fine restaurant and the noise level is atrocious!
Add CommentConsistant great food/service!
We have patronized this establishment no less that 10 times in the last six months and find it to one of our all time favorite places to eat Italian food.
Grotto
If you are looking for a fast pace setting filled with lots of action... not to mention lots of noise.. Grotto might be the place. The food was alright.. nothing out of the ordinary.. a bit bland compared to other Italian restaurants. The staff was nice. Nice service at the bar but the waiter never seemed to be there. Portions were just right.
TYPICAL
HEY! Any place that serves pizza gets 3 stars, tops. Especially when the Calfiornia Pizza Kitchen (the trendy, ridiculous restaurant near San Felipe) does it far better. Please, when you use garlic don't burn it, that's what Houston's notoriously bad Chinese retaurants are for.
Grotto
The new Grotto is not what it used to be. The $27 dollar snapper filet was boney and two of our pasta orders could not be filled. The manager seemed unaware of his resposibilities.
