In 1977, Jim Goode opened his first restaurant, near downtown. But Goode hit upon a winning combination of authentic Texas barbecue and caring service. That first cafe has grown into four restaurants under the Goode Co. banner. Even though Goode has since added burgers and seafood to his lineup, barbecue remains the company's mainstay. At Goode Co., the barbecue is slow-cooked for 16 hours, making it mouthwatering tender. Then it's topped with a delicious sauce bursting with smoky, tomato flavor. Sausage (from a well-guarded recipe), fresh pies and bread are made daily, including a Goode Co. exclusive: jalapeno cheese bread.

The atmosphere is basic Texana. A cafeteria style serving line snakes through an old barn building jammed with Texas memorabilia, historic photos, and mounted cow heads. There isn't much seating but most folks head out for the patio anyway. And now there's the Goode Co. BBQ Hall of Fame with cooking tools, sauces, marinades and the famous Goode Company's Brazos Bottom Pecan Pie and online ordering. -- Olivia Flores Alvarez

I don't know who voted for this establishment but they are truly not Texans! I am a REAL TEXAN and I had their ribs and it was a joke! If you are not originally from Texas and your parents and their parents and so worth don't vote on the barbeque because Goode and Company is NOT real barbeque. BURN'S Barbeque is real pit smoked barbeque! Get it right all you wanna be Texans!

I'm with "Hmmmm" 6-7-05...............Goode Co BBQ is the pits. I'm from the Northeast and have had better ribs in chains in NYC. Luling is very good and the one that everone misses is a place called Early's BBQ & Boat Storage on the north side of Lake Conroe

Goode Company serves the best barbeque in Houston. It is also a great place to take out of town visitors to eat authentic barbeque. Everyone I have taken to eat at Goode Company has loved it's unique decor and delicious barbeque.
