In a town full of Tex-Mex restaurants, this pink palace has outlived better and worse competitors. The colorful walls and clunky Mexican furnishings add to its charm, but the tropical outdoor patios, as well as the climate-controlled sun rooms, are what bring people back. Upstairs, on the bar deck, things are even livelier. The food can be hit-or-miss, but always a hit is the sinful Avocado Adobe. The original recipe called for a deep-fried avocado stuffed with cheese and stewed chicken, and drowned in ranchero sauce (we recommend the sauce on the side). Updated versions offer choices of ground beef, as well as fajita beef and chicken. Those not up for quite so many fat grams can feast on the Tex-Mex light menu of shrimp and taco salads, chalupas and tacos. These, like the rest of the basic Tex-Mex menu, are, well, basic. From the nachos to the rice-and-beans sides, this is standard fare -- with one exception. Cafe Adobe turns out a good enchilada -- especially the sour cream-chicken version. That's not on the lunch menu, but decent cheese enchiladas, as well as a variety of other dishes, can be found for as little as $5.99. All this may leave visitors to Cafe Adobe in a quandary -- lively happy hour or cheap lunch? Some darn good margaritas and a scenic atmosphere in which to soak them up may sway you in the direction of the former.

I would tell you to go to taco bell before going to this place!! The scene is okay. Do not order the house margarita. It taste like something you would give a child. There is zero alcohol in it. The best thing on the menu is the chocolate chimichanga.

Go there on a weekend night and you may get to sit down in the bar while having a two hour wait for a table! You'll definitely get to mingle elbow-to-elbow!

But seriously, there are places North of Houston in the Conroe area that make knock-your-socks-off ritas that BEAT anyone on the list of best margarita restaurants! That would be a place just off Hwy 105 East and IH-45 North by the name of Cinco de Mayo....and their food is FANTASTIC as well!!!! It looks rather ramshackle on the outside, but the food is great, the drinks are great and if you're searching for some quiet and private time with your special someone off the beaten path....this place is GREAT! Cinco de Mayo beats out Cafe Adobe and all their city slicker ways, but the one time I ate at Cafe Adobe, after waiting over 2 hours to sit down, it was so so!

  • SEEMS LIKE OLE TIMES AT CAFE ADOBE

CAfe Adobe has been getting better each time I return!! Great food, Friendly staff, best patio, and what about those light up margarita glasses.

I will continue to bring my parties to Cafe Adobe for the great food, service, and drinks!! Can't think of a better Tex Mex place with the total package!!

Keep up the good work and thanks for the current updates you are doing. Your loyal customers appreciate all of the current changes. Things just keep getting better everytime we come in to visit.

Spruce up outside when you finish indoors.

If you have never been to the Westheimer location it is a destination place. I don't recommend bringing young children on the busy nights which include Monday's!!

I enjoy Cafe Adobe, but definitely would not put it on the list of best HH locations. No great drink or food specials for HH. For my money, I don't think Ninfa's (Richmond/Kirby) can be beat for HH. They have $2.50 margaritas, which are quite potent. Don't plan on having more than 2 unless you have a designated driver! They also have $1 appetizers--cheese quesadillas, bean/cheese nachos & chicken flautas. They are HH portions, so don't expect a meal unless ordering more than one. My gf and I went to Ninfas recently and the tab for food and drinks was like $16. Compare that to a recent HH trip to Cafe Adobe where we spent $60. No comparison as far as I am concerned.

Some items are okay. The scene is the only reason I go. Food is substandard and margaritas are pre-made when you order them on the rocks.
