A Fort Worth institution since 1958, Angelo's is the place both urban cowboys and urban professionals go for authentic Texas barbecue. An unpretentious, western-style lodge ambience mixes with the unmistakable scent of hickory smoke, quickly transporting hungry customers back 100 years. Mounted trophies, many of which were caught by owner Angelo George, boldly accent the wooden walls that surround the large dining area. All the basics are served hot; beef brisket, pork ribs, whole chicken and a plethora of traditional sides including potato salad, creamy coleslaw and baked beans. The chopped beef and brisket sandwiches are customer favorites; both served on a greased hamburger bun with mustard and dill pickle slices. This home-style eatery is still a popular choice for Fort Worth's ravenous non-vegans, so be ready to wait a spell before your order. -- Bradley Harding

No grease on buns, and railhead stole recipe
This is the best barbecue around. Everything is cooked in the pits until the meat falls off the bone when there is a bone. The flavor is outstanding. If you go during the rush times, there might be a line, if you get impatient, sneak up to the center of the bar, order your cold beer and your food at the same time. As far as the Railhead, one of the original people at Railhead, he died a few years back, used to work for Angelo and what do you think he took with him? It is a good copy, but still not the original. They don't put grease on the buns by the way, it is served with a little BBQ sauce if you want and then the trimmings. If you like barbecue, you'll love Angelo's.
Add CommentServings have gotten smaller
Last time we ate there the servings was much smaller and the prices keep getting higher and higher. Expected much more but what can I say. Did taste very good but just not enough of it.......
Ole Timer

I started coming to Angelo's when it opened in '58 and tried many many others over the past 50 years in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, South Texas and other parts of the country. There is still no comparison. I have lived in Boston for more than 20 years, where BBQ is a phenom, and yes, they have a lot to learn. I just wish Angelo's could overnight me a fix once in a while!
My Favorite Always

I first ate at Angelo's in early 70's when I worked @ Montgomery Ward's 7th street service center. I fell in love with the chopped brisket sandwich and in the past 36 years my opinion has not changed. I no longer live in Texas (my loss) but still look forward to a trip to Angelo's everytime I am in the area. The only real BBQ is Texas BBQ.
Coldest Beer in Town
Ice cold beer in a frosty schooner! Nothin' better on a hot summer day when you need to wash down some trail dust. This is a man's place. If you're offended by regular folk and stuffed and monnted animals then go to a wimpier place. The BBQ sandwich is drippin' with delicoious grease.
Fantastic
Where else will you stand in line outside in January during the Stock Show to get a terriffic lunch and a cold BEER when it is 20 degrees.
Anyplace is better
Although the food looks and smells great it was lacking as far as I was concerned. Plus the mounted animals all over the place was very upsetting. I much prefer Railhead, Risky's and Cousins to Angelos anytime. Personally I really prefer Cousins over all of them in Fort Worth.
Locals Favorite
You know what they say about eating where the locals go. Angelo's is a institution, I personally have eaten there since I was a little girl in the 1960's, when there was sawdust on the floor & a lifesize stuffed bear talking to you. The best ribs in town, flavorful tender brisket., reliable same quality all the time.
Don't Miss This BBQ
Worth the trip if you are anywhere near Fort Worth. The beef ribs fall off the bone and are so flavorful you'll feel bad using bbq sauce. The sides are excellent too.
As for the "over rated" criticism, do you really want advice from someone who judges a bbq joint on the basis of plactic vs metal forks? Go to Angelo's for the food, not the ambiance.
I make the hour long trip to Ft Worth from Plano nearly every time I visit my in-laws in Plano.
