A Fort Worth institution since 1958, Angelo's is the place both urban cowboys and urban professionals go for authentic Texas barbecue. An unpretentious, western-style lodge ambience mixes with the unmistakable scent of hickory smoke, quickly transporting hungry customers back 100 years. Mounted trophies, many of which were caught by owner Angelo George, boldly accent the wooden walls that surround the large dining area. All the basics are served hot; beef brisket, pork ribs, whole chicken and a plethora of traditional sides including potato salad, creamy coleslaw and baked beans. The chopped beef and brisket sandwiches are customer favorites; both served on a greased hamburger bun with mustard and dill pickle slices. This home-style eatery is still a popular choice for Fort Worth's ravenous non-vegans, so be ready to wait a spell before your order. -- Bradley Harding

Not the old Angelo's anymore...

Itâs several years that I had been to Angeloâs, Fort Worthâs near west side iconic barbecue place (iconic even without the sawdust on the floor). I decided to take out some ribs, and a BBQ sandwich for our son. At around six P.M. this Thursday, 8-Jan-09, the restaurant was already pretty full, everybody seemed to have a good time. I looked at the people behind the counter: all new faces (except for the guy slicing the BBQ) â¦âthe old guardâs goneâ I said to myself.
I went home with 1/2 lb of ribs and the BBQ sandwich. At my first bite into a rib, I thought: Wow â¦have my taste buds changed that much? I was in denial -- I didn't want to believe it -- till I finally got the guts to face the truth: The ribs, in the past so juicy, tender and mellow, not only were a bit dry, but also unbelievably salty. In hindsight, I congratulated myself for having ordered only 1/2 lb (for a moment there I had been tempted to get a full lb). My son also was not satisfied: The meat is not completely cooked through, he said.
There goes the iconâ¦now I can understand that itâs no longer Angeloâs but other BBQ restaurants in the area that have been getting the title âbest BBQ in townâ.Add Commentover rated

Not my 1st choice
I only ate there once and the ribs were suggested as their best.
Mine were dried out. Not horrible, but I've had much better in the DFW areascrew apollo
If you don't like it, take your ass back home. We wont miss you or your funny accent and nasty smell.
Texans have no taste
I've lived in Texas since 1983 and have yet to find a place that serves amthing resembling Bar-B-Q. And this place is the worst. The sauce has virtually no taste, might as well pour plain tomoato sauce on your meat. The place is also dirty and should probably be closed down by the inspectors. The side dishes also have no taste. Serioulsy, Texans have no clue how to make a good BBQ meal.

IM from Texas, but live in California an Once each year I return for one more of those BBQ sandwiches
Best of the Rest
While stationed at Carswell AFB from '66-'69 my buddies and I would visit Angelos whenever possible and as I moon-lighted at Gachman's Steel Company across the street, getting to Angelo's was pretty convenient. I have lived in OH, PA, NY and now MD and no other BBQ comes close to Angelo's. I was a little disappointed with the reduction in the brisket-sandwich portions last year while visiting family in Ft. Worth or else I would have gone with 5 stars. The taste was there, just needed a little mo' of a sandwich.
