The legendary Sonny Bryan's is a popular chain of barbecue restaurants, but this location is where it all started. Its basic drive-in setup retains the same down-home charm from decades ago. Either eat in your car or come inside and chow down (old school desks still provide makeshift tables). The food, of course, is authentic barbecue with all the fixin's. Generous cuts of ribs slathered in sauce, beef brisket sandwiches and delicious smoked ham and turkey are just some of the favorites. All the typical smokehouse sides are available as well, including barbecue beans, fried okra and a surprisingly good slaw. Grab a cold beer from the ice chest to wash everything down. Open for lunch only (or until they run out of grub).

  • THE BEST ANYWHERE

    Review rating : 5out of 5   Richter021403 - 05/31/2008

I have had BBQ from east coast to the west coast, and north and south for that matter. There is not a better BBQ than Sonny,s!

  • Way Over-rated

    Review rating : 2out of 5   fmcnealpage - 07/30/2007

We finally tried it and I feel it it way over-rated!! The ribs were not good at all. The meat was tough and I've had much better sauce including my own. However, my husband had the turkey breast sandwich and loved it.

  • It Ain't in the Sauce

    Review rating : 4out of 5   nolanwb - 02/20/2007

The BBQ is "mighty fine," but I laugh when someone raves about the Sonny Bryan BBQ sauce. It is the weakest feature of the entire restaurant. And, when someone has to resort to putting any "off the shelf" sauce on their own home cooked BBQ and saying it is better than Bryan's...Not! Lil wrangler, you should take the time to "design" your own sauce. By the way, the Bryan's sauce is way too thin for me.... Billy Bob

  • This is good, RAILHEAD is BEST

    Review rating : 3out of 5   ttheglund - 02/15/2007

Railhead is just south off of I-30 on Montgomery. The best BBQ around. Better than Colters, Dickey's, Bodacious, Shady Oak,...everyone of them. The rub on the ribs are the best, and their sliced brisket is smoked to perfection. It is addicting. Cold beer, great atmosphere.

  • Hooplah?

Sure it's good BBQ, but honestly I do much better at home with my pit and Cattlemen's sauce. In a city this size there really should be something better. Especially for the price.

  • Great Ribs, Ok atmosphere

    Review rating : 3out of 5   missions963 - 08/06/2006

I'll have to admit that Sonny Bryan's does ribs right. The best one to go to is the one at Forest and Preston because Tues Night is all you can eat. But I'll have to say its just a step below Odom's in West Dallas. Odom's has incredible ribs and it screams "hole in the wall". Fun loving people and eating ribs there is an experience.

  • Native of the Dallas area

    Review rating : 5out of 5   burrf2 - 07/01/2006

Born and raised int the Dallas area (Lancaster) now live in the midwest for the last 8 years and besides family and friends I probably miss the original sonny Bryan's on Inwood as much as anything in that area. Dad was taking me there when is was 3 or 4 years old, now i am almost 59. It seems like nothing changes, the food is and always has been the best I have eaten at the famed Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City and the food there is also great but not as good as Sonny's. TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT !!!!
