Blue Plate Special: Intensely flavored and unusual Chinese fare, including Cantonese duck, orange peel chicken, Mongolian beef and the very Great Wall of Chocolate.

The Dish: P.F. Chang's -- the brainchild of Paul Fleming, executed by cuisine expert Philip Chang -- first opened its doors in Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1993. Fleming sought elegance and innovation, authenticity and exploration -- none of it easy in a chain restaurant. But he succeeded: His China Bistro is a Hot Concept winner, as well as Best Chinese Restaurant Award Winner. Chang's fiery stir-fried spicy chicken is a new take on General Tao's, and VIP Cantonese chicken mimics Peking duck preparation. Honey shrimp are battered and crispy, and stir-fried Cantonese scallops or shrimp are seasoned with garlic and yellow chives. Mongolian Beef is quickly cooked with scallions and garlic. Wines complement your entree choices.

The Atmosphere: Although "elegant" is rarely a word used to describe chain restaurants, P.F. Chang's hits the bulls-eye. Gracious, inviting and innovative, P.F. Chang's offers a mysteriously haunting and glamorous dining setting, accented by pieces from the Ming and T'ang dynasties. Hand-painted murals and low lighting complete the mood. In some areas of the country, Fleming has instituted Pei Wei Asian Diner, the quick and more casual eating experience. But true fans will remain loyal to P.F. Chang's original vision. -- Tracey E. • What happen to the really Chinese restuarants?

    Review rating : 3out of 5   TKoehlar - 09/11/2009

PF is good, but a chain and pricey for what it is!

We need a really good Dim Sum and Noodle restuarant. The best is in Vegas at the Bellaigo called Noodles :) Yummy!

  • BROKEN GLASS In My Drink

    Review rating : 1out of 5   barnettaa426 - 03/10/2007

Please be ware when drinking anything at this restaurant. I had a BROKEN piece of GLASS (1" x 3") in my beverage. After finding this, we checked the remaining beverages on the table, only to find smaller shards in other drinks.

The worst part of all, was the unapologetic and borderline rude response we received from the restaurant management.

This is a family restaurant in Highland Park. You'd think they would care that children, let alone adults, could nearly swallow glass.

This is a major health code violation, and more importantly, safety concern.

  • Now on my top 5 list

    Review rating : 5out of 5   luckygurl1227 - 11/07/2004

This restaurant surprised me with its great atmosphere, great service and wonderful food. They even went as far as to give my table complimentary lettuce wraps since it was our first time there. The lettuce wraps were so impressive, I couldnt stop telling everyone about them. I can't wait to take the rest of my family and my fiancee. I had the broccoli and beef. It was the best I've had. Make sure to make this place a must go on your list.

PF Changs is in my top two favorite resturants! You must go! The lettuce wraps are a favorite and they are great but try the shrimp dumplings for an appetizer. I'm not even a big (non fried) shimp eater, but loved these! You can taste the freshness and quality!
And you HAVE to have the Mongolian Beef and Honey Shrimp! I have only been disappointed in the Mon. Beef once when it wasn't tender, but that was once in about 20 times!
The iced tea is delicious too! Great atmosphere with good prices, about $12 or so for the Mon. Beef. And, I'm not sure of every PF Changs, I've been to a few lately that will let you call ahead and get your name on the waiting list so you wait shouldnt be too long if you plan ahead. I have taken friends and family and no dissapointments yet!!
