Cafe Pacific's location in Highland Park Village makes it an easy choice for the Highland Park crowd, but the restaurant also attracts a variety of celebrities. Diners agree that this seafood institution is a natural choice for celebrations or for a romantic evening. The elegant dining room, with a black and white tiled floor and white linen covered tables, evokes a sense of being transported back to New York City in the 1940s. However, it is the modern and innovative seafood menu that is most appealing to diners. For starters, try the calamari dish, lightly breaded and seasoned with Cajun spices -- easily shared by two. One of the most highly regarded restaurant specialties is short-smoked salmon layered atop roasted vegetable couscous with a red wine tarragon sauce and mushroom ragout. Cafe Pacific offers an extensive selection of California wines, carefully selected to complement any of the house specialties. Don't leave without trying one of the desserts, including a mouth-watering bananas Foster bread pudding. -- MaryAnn Holder-Browne

Best snapper I ever ate in my life. Went there for our 8 year wedding anniversary. Stellar service by Vicky. Great shoe-string sweet potatoes.

These folks know how to make a martini! I wish dinner had been as good. Calamari was very chewy and my salmon was overcooked. Service was nice.

Food was good and the atmosphere was nice but the service was a bit slow. We left feeling like we were ignored because we were not part of the regular "In-Crowd".

When I called to make a reservation the reservationist, Lisa, could not have been more accomodating. Every aspect of my needs were detailed and the execution was flawless. And what a great voice. I will never forget my experience. Jean-Pierre and his staff were so pleasant and friendly. I felt I was in my old neighborhood in Jersey at my favorite restaurant.

Where does this place get it's reputation? The food is only average for upscale Highland Park and Jean-Pierre and staff are very stuffy and pretentious. No thanks.

If you ever happen to be on that end of Highland Park, stick to Patrizio's (see my review) and give Cafe Pacific a miss.
The place looks very upmarket and elegant, but walk in and it is fairly average, as is the food, and the service is not so hot either.
Gucciloafer was not impressed with the crab cakes, and recently had better ones from a smapler at Bennigan's! The salad was a swizz too.
Very very poor value for money.

Excellent halibut dish. We were visitors with no knowledge of the area and wandered in without reservations. We were treated well, served promply and made to feel welcome. We will return.

Food was outstanding with a very nice selection of well matched wines, even by the glass. Waitress was very attentive, professional and thorough.
Negatives that took away a star were:
STUCK UP front door personnel with a surley attitude, cramped conditions and LOTS of sediment in a $35.00 glass of vintage port that had not been properly handled.
We stopped in on a whim while shopping and were wearing jeans (though clean & nice)and had no reservation. We were told that we would have just over an hour to eat because of reservations.
Next time maybe we will "dress up" a little and make reservations and see if we can't find that FIFTH star they lost on our first visit.
Again, excellent food & a great waitress.
