In an increasingly high-tech Austin, Sandy's remains a vivid reminder of the Capital City's good ole days. The dine-outside-only burger shack on Barton Springs is a city staple (you can't miss the giant neon custard cone), serving up burgers, fries and shakes to those in search of fabulous '50s nostalgia -- and prices. Known for their popular special (burger, fries and a drink for next to nothing), Sandy's is an ideal stop for Town Lake walkers, struggling students and the budget-conscious.
Fully embodying old-fashioned values, Sandy's only accepts cash, so look under those cushions, scrounge up loose change and be sure to leave the credit cards behind. Family-owned for more than five decades, Sandy's is a throwback to simpler times, when an evening out was made complete by good food and good company. Be sure to try the famous frozen custard, it's the perfect topper to a warm evening. -- Kelly Lee

The burgers or ok now but when the ariginal owner Glen Teater operated Sandy it was the greatest buger in the whole country. Working people in the down town office would get to gether and turn in orders from half a dozen to thirty burgers at a time. He had only two siges four inch and five inch buns. This is just to give a little history to the business thirty years ago. Sandy had one of the swetest woman working for him her name was Goldy Harris. The burgers or still great and I am sure Sandy is looking down from the heavens with great satisfaction.

Thick shakes make my face hurt when I try to drink them. Recommend going next door to Whataburger for a bigger straw.
