What started out as an early 20th-century gas station and feed store has evolved over the years into a highly successful barbecue joint with several locations throughout Texas. You can still stop at Rudy's for a tank of gas and directions, but it's the restaurant's universally acclaimed barbecue sauce -- now distributed all over the country -- that really brings in the customers. Try it on one of dozens of meaty entrees, such as the St. Louis pork ribs, jalapeno sausage, turkey breast or chopped beef. Generously portioned sides include new potatoes, coleslaw and green bean salad.

The general setup is conducive to casualness of the first degree -- enter through the front door, follow the yellow line to the counter and place your order. You'll be given a tub filled with white bread slices, pickles, napkins and piping hot meat. Then you sit at the picnic tables that make up the restaurant's seating and let the feasting begin. -- Barrett Brown

You like to be screamed at when you order. Except for their excellent beans, enjoy side dishes straight out of a bucket of Sysco products just like those at hundreds of other sub-par eateries. How about some diabetic-coma inducing SWEEEEEEEET tea to wash down the stale white bread, withered onions and low-dollar pickles?

The worst BBQ in Texas is not acatchy slogan but the honest to God truth about the food, especially the sauce which would be better put to use by waxing a brown carwith it. Sausage is pedestrian at best, ribs are not terrible. Turkey is over-brined.
Rudy popularity should serve notice that Central Texas is filling up with Yankees and others who have not a clue about decent BBQ.

  • Mediocre, at best.

Rudy's isn't anything special. The atmosphere is kinda cool, but there is MUCH better BBQ to be had in the great state. Right down the road from Austin in Llano, Texas is Cooper's Pit BBQ...That's where you need to go.

We're from Central America. Everytime I visit my ol'man in Round Rock, a dinner at Rudy's is a must. We love the place and its food specially, a juicy brisket piece, or a sausage, ring, those ribs oh my god! Ah, of course we allways take home a bottle of their famous BBQ Sauce.

  • So yummy!!!

The food and the service are exceptional. The young men and women working there are the most fun and friendly and respectful in the business. I have NEVER had a bad experience. Way to go Rudy's. I usually visit the Round Rock location. Keep up the good work.

The food and the service are both outstanding and they know what lean brisket means!

  • Insanely delicious

When we visit Austin from Connecticut to visit my father, he takes us here, it's the highlight of the visit and believe me, we do some pretty cool things in Austin.
I bring home the bottles of BBQ sauce and divide it between my neighbors - mel in your mouth does not quite cover it and the staff is friendly, fast, clean and competent.

  • Can't be missed!

I love this place! My sister lives in Austin and she knows when I come to visit, we MUST eat here! The food is excellent. I love the brisket and the St. Louis ribs. The latter are so tender, the meat just falls off the bone. The creamed corn is amazing and the potatoes are so buttery, they just melt in your mouth. There is nothing famcy about Rudy's. Your plates are pieces of paper you just set on the table and throw your food on them. We all love Rudy's and I can't wait to get back to Austin to make another visit! I wish Rudy would bring his yummy BBQ to California!
