  • The Best !

You can't beat a place that has great food, great ambiance, and great music! I wish this place could be lifted out of Austin and placed in New York City. The Jonas Crab Claws and Iceberg Salad were outstanding. It was so good that we went there twice during our short visit to Austin. Kris Kimura and crew were good enough that we bought their CD.

  • Be Oh-So-Careful About the Nuclear Horseradish for your Shrimp Cocktail

    Review rating : 5out of 5   Jaybird255 - 06/10/2008

Eddie V's @ the Arboretum is better than the downtown location. the table bread is the best in town, and the shrimp cocktail is the best on the planet. Be very careful about the horseradish for this, however--the waiter warns you about this as he serves the shrimp cocktail, and take his warning seriously. I don't have a clue what they do to make the prawns so delicious, but it's orgasmic.

  • Nickle and Dimed on the wine.

Really enjoyed the food but when our wine was brought...my $9 glass of wine wasn't full. When I questioned the waiter on the volume in my glass (less than half of the wine glass) he said I had an ample portion. I have been to some of the best restaurants in the world and when the customer says it isn't right...the best restaurants make the customer feel good or he/she doesn't come back. As I won't do.

I like just about everything about Eddie V's. Great Bar, great service and wonderful food. Come during happy hour and drinks are $1.00 off and many appetizers are 1/2 price!

  • Happy Hour High Here

    Review rating : 4out of 5   dzersen - 04/26/2004

We've done the big splurges at Eddie V's but our favorite is to go at 5:30 when the drinks are $1 cheaper and the appetizers are 1/2 off. A salad, french bread, a merlot, and a brulet or their chocolate speciality dessert are all one really needs for a meal. If you want to splurge, share a dozen oysters for 39 cents each at happy hour-- freshest in town! Our favorite of the two is the Arboretum site with a fantastic view of the hill country from a window table at sunset.
