A million restaurants serve West Tennessee barbecue in Memphis. The difference that comes in Madison Avenue's Bar-B-Q Shop is that they seem to concentrate in the underappreciated aspect of pork. The little off-beat smokehouse-style hang out is a display of Memphian glories while keeping the comfort of a stylish restaurant. The bar is decorated with newspaper clippings from the 70s and 80s. The menu serves up many different forms of the namesake, as well as sides and tasty toast. Average, Average, Average.....!!!! Go to Paynes BBQ on Lamar or Cozy Corner!!! i think the owners of these restuarants on the list even know this must be a joke. I'm glad they got some recognition though. Congrats!!

Kanoogle999 - 06/11/2008I have to say among the restaurants listed here, I have to give it to The BBQ Shop. As others have said, they are consistently good. On the rare occasions that I have ribs not prepared on my backyard grill, they are my choice. Rendezvous is entirely too commercial, not authentic southern ribs. 3 blocks from my house, so very convenient.

sugarplumz001 - 06/07/2008As a college student we would always go to the BBQ Shop... none of that Corky's mess, and great prices. Their BBQ was ole fashion, and always the same. Every time we ordered, we got exactly what we expected, and we loved it! I always take my family there, because what is a visit to Memphis without REAL BBQ?

memphisthumper - 12/07/2005An exceptional place for excellent barbeque. Wonderful service. I love the ribs best with the dry sauce. The meat just falls off the bone and is truly delicious. I like the slaw but my wife doesn't, so I get two helpings of slaw. The beans are also tasty. The bread even tastes good. THE place in Memphis for barbeque!

mayeux35 - 06/23/2003Moving from Kansas City - where they have the BEST BBQ in the country - & now living in Memphis (for 7 years plus) & searching for a comparable 'Que to K.C. - we have finally found ONE - in the "B-B-Q Shop". The pork is the ultimate, and the spaghetti is unique & wonderful!!
