Nestled in the shadow of Graceland, A&R Bar-B-Q is just the type of joint Elvis would've loved. Casual and unpretentious, the restaurant caters to hungry tourists and locals alike. A&R has one specialty: pork barbecue. They do it up right, grilling the meat for hours, patiently basting it every so often with a secret blend of sauce and spices. Serious eaters hunker down in the restaurant's vinyl booths for lunch and dinner, intent on devouring entire slabs one rib at a time. Not quite that hungry? Try the chopped-shoulder sandwich, a local delicacy. Served on a bun with a tangy coleslaw topping, it's a meal fit for the King. -- Andria Lisle

Someone shoulve examined memphis bbq before nominating

After reading the winners of the barbeque portion of the contest, i was shocked. A&R??? probably not!!! someone should take a visit to Memphis to find out who really does teh best barbeque..the only place halfway good on the list is Central and its average..I challenge any of these places to stand next to Cozy Corner or Paynes BBQ on Lamar...get real!!!!
Add CommentMemphis is nuts
I have eaten in Memphis several times, BBQ everytime. I have no idea as to why people think Memphis has good BBQ, I have never had good BBQ while in Memphis, even at Randavou is way over rated ( so Sad ) .
If you want good food head south to Mobile Al, Best seafood in the world, even the BBQ is better then Memphis.Charlie Vergos' Rendezvous

Hands down Rendezvous is the best in Memphis! The people, and the food. You can' t beat. Beats Corky's even the old Public Eye BBQ that closed down awhile back.
Bellevue Location the Bomb
The original location is fantastic especially if lucky enough to catch a sweetpotatoe pie :) But be warned the Bartlett location does not meet the grade; the employees are indifferent and the Q tastes like it has been in a steamer.
Good but dirty
When we first walked in it was shock. There are bars on the windows. The other patrons looked like Americas Most Wanted top 10. The floors, walls, doors ....FILTHY. But being NYers we said what the heck and sat down and had dinner. The food was great so give it a shot but leave your jewelry and valuables in the hotel
Best Barbecue in Memphis!
I have tasted Corky's, which is considered by many to be the best Memphis has to offer. However, A&R Bar-B-Que beats Corky's hands down! If you haven't tried this, you have not tasted Memphis barbecue; it's as simple as that.
