Lino Lakes, MN 55014
The term ''red-blooded American'' takes on new meaning at this North Metro restaurant; rather than a cultural classification, it's the kind of cuisine you can expect. Plenty of thick steaks, rare or otherwise, and other American meaty favorites are served with all the trimmings in a slightly upscale roadhouse atmosphere -- think crystal and comfy seating mixed with taxidermy. Chops, seafood and chicken are available, but traditional steak cuts are the stars, with prices ranging from $24 for a New York Strip to $30 for a porterhouse or filet mignon. And diners who like their meals to have a wilder flavor will enjoy Red Oak's weekly game entree, which may be venison, pheasant or some other formerly feral fauna. Tasty appetizers and sides (like great hash browns) are as un-trendy as the rest of the menu, and a big selection of wines and cocktails is available from the friendly, old school barkeeps and servers. Walk-ins are welcome, but Lino Lakes isn't exactly just around the corner for most of us, so consider reservations. Also, make a note to ask about the scores of recording artist photos plastering the walls (the answer may surprise you). -- John Sharpe

Best Steak On Earth
The only reason Red Oak isn't rated overall # 1 Best Steak House is because it's not in the "Big City" but rather off the beaten track up in the northern suburbs...don't waste your time drive north!

A Diamond in the Northwoods
What an unexpected treasure. This restaurant not only has a quiet atmosphere, outstanding menu choices that are far from the usual--duck, boar--unique specials and excellent steas with a fair price. Tom Katt, is the owner and host and visits your table with the specials. This is a restaurant you will visit frquently because you can count on consistency. It's our favorite-Jan Thietje
Excellent
Quiet, friendly, relaxing with great food. We have been there several times always a good experience and always something new on the menu!!
Consistently Great Place to Go
We've been going to the Red Oak for several years, usually about three times a month. Love the food...all outstanding including steak, fish, porkchops, salads, potatoes, vegetables, rice, bread...everything. Enjoy both the dining area and the bar. We arrived late one weekday night when John (who has worked there as long as we've been going there) was literally just locking the doors. He saw us and welcomed us in. Assured us that it was no problem to open the kitchen back up and took care of us completely. It is by far our favorite place to go.
