Later, 'gator: A Philly outpost of the Jersey steakhouse chain, Charlie Brown's Steakhouse, has moved into the old Al E. Gator's in Berwyn and managed to do away with any leftover TGIF feel that might have lingered in the woodwork. Unlike most steak joints, Charlie Brown's dining room eschews dark woods and heavy appointments, opting instead for a lighter, less "good ol' boys" club feeling. The menu, however, is as manly as you might expect. The lightest thing you'll find is a precious treatment of salmon that involves lemongrass and Asian coleslaw. For the most part, you'll find a wide range of top-notch beef dishes (CB's proudly boasts that it serves only Founders Reserve beef), with some seafood and chicken thrown in for good measure. Definite musts are the horseradish-crusted prime rib and the filet mignon topped with blue cheese. The salad bar is also a treat, especially since even the side dishes are on the heavy side. Then there's the to-die-for concoction: creamy New England clam chowder served in a scooped-out bread bowl. The family-friendly feel at Charlie Brown's suits the name, and even the bar scene is relatively subdued.

  • why is it so totally packed?

If it is so bad, why then is it so totally packed night after night. All the other businesses around it (Circuit City and Oscar Huber Furniture) are going out of business and yet Charlies in Devon just keeps on cooking along (pun intended).

I have eaten at the one in Berwyn a few times and the last time will be my last. the service was horrible, appetizer came out insanely late and it was a cold appetizer, there was no need for it to be late.. IT's called the server forgot. I ordered the ribs, because I love tryin ribs at different places, and they were the worst ribs EVER!! Never again, there was nothing enjoyable about that place :(

  • Not a steakhouse

As a corner, INEXPENSIVE chain restaurant, it's Ok but I would never call this a steakhouse.
Their salad bar used to be one of the best until about two years ago they stopped serving their very good bread and (permanently) substituted some really BAD dry bread and rolls, what a shame.
Steaks are just fair to OK, at best, certainly not worthy of a steakhouse name. The best deal here is the giant cut of "Prime Rib", not bad, for 20 bucks.
I eat about a 1/3 of it and take the rest home! Good for at least three normal meals and for budget minded eaters it's not all that bad.
