Editorial Review
by CitySearch Contributor
A big-money, big-portioned, big-ego dining experience.

In Short
From its robber-baron decor right down to its single-malt Scotch list, the Capital Grille is a brash and ostentatious place full of suits, stogie-suckers and bejeweled trophy wives. In other words, the consummate city steakhouse. The 10-ounce filet mignon, tasty and tender, is pliant and juicy inside. The steak au poivre--14 or 24 ounces--is a serious slab in either size. For a bit of carnivorous rapture, slice into the enormous dry-aged porterhouse.

I just rated this restaurant the rating it averaged out to.

I chose to look here for two reasons. High percentage of voters and the work GRILLE in it. However, it has only been open since 2000.

This means that this is NOT the restaurant I ate at YEARS ago which I would have rated with five stars. I was insulted that my idiot x-boyfriend asked me to lunch and although I knew better I said yes. I was so insulted that he would take me to a restaurant that had GRILLE in it as it's name.

It may have had Henry or Harry in the name also but I just cannot remember.

When I got there I was blown away. Gorgeous. The very wealthy were eating there. Little old ladies together, all types of business men, etc.

I wisely ordered the Filet Mignon. Medium Rare Perfection and minced onion covered the top but only 1 minced onion high.

However, he came in a "suit" that was cotton and light blue stripes against white. It has a specific name but I cannot remeber it. This was about 25 years ago. His overly curly hair was plastered down and parted to the side. I wanted to vomit. I kept my eyes on the steak.

Our seating was incredible. Next to the wealthies and in front of the elevated seating so everyone could see us...front and center. He put me in viewing of those dining below with the mirrored wall behind me.

Anyway, it was a great steak experience. I bummed my parking rate as I drove into the city myself and never returned it or saw him again. Except ridning on an old low rider motor-cycle like a bike gang cruiser. He looked as awful like this as he was in his suit.

Sorry about the personal information. It seemed to give a good contrast to my steak.
