OK, so the waiters are old and cranky, there aren't many choices on the menu, and your credit cards are as worthless as sawdust here (unless, of course, you qualify to carry the special Peter Luger card). But carnivores worth their salt absolutely cannot pass up a chance to eat at Peter Luger, often considered, along with its other location in Brooklyn, to be the best steak house in the metropolitan area. Of course, be prepared to come face-to-face with Luger attitude: Order an iced tea instead of a "real" drink and the waiter may roll his eyes; ask for a menu and your server will look at you as if you were nuts. That's because everyone who's anyone knows that porterhouse is the only type of meat Luger's deems worthy of serving. Just order steak for any number of people, with the standard accompaniments of creamed spinach and potatoes, and you'll be set. You can get chicken and salmon as well, but why bother? You know why you're there. -- J. Gidman Zumpano

Peter Luger
This is by far the BEST Steak I have ever had. The meat is so tender it melts min your mouth. I used to go often to the Brooklyn location but since I moved to L.I. I love Great neck . The group in my office try to go every friday we can.
T he steak is the same as Brooklyn but the bartender is super friendly and the waiters are anything but gruff. The service is always fast and pleasantComments(0)|Add CommentVery good
I have only been there a couple of times, but I had a great meal both times. If you want your steak done more than medium go somewhere else. Like many good chefs they don't like to cook food in a way that they don't think it should be served. Why cook a perfectly aged porterhouse to well done? If you like your steak done that way go "Stop and Shop" and grill your own. A good steak goes to waste when that well done. My favorite has to be the bacon appeizer. Fun time and worth the heafty bill.
