Known traditionally for serving the best ribs around (seriously), Oxford has been an oft-forgotten dining spot in the hip Royal Oak community. Those who know, however, can attest. And now, with a major expansion completed at the beginning of 2003, Oxford offers up something a little more than just perfect steak and seafood. By adding an expansion large enough to accommodate another 70 to 80 people, Oxford is now one of the only places around with separate dining rooms and bars for smoking and nonsmoking patrons. Three houses on the block behind the restaurant were acquired and knocked down, making way for the larger room and even more parking, where the latter had always been a little tricky. Not a problem now. The entrance has been moved from the front of Main Street to around the north side of the building. Upon entering, you can head to the right for the new nonsmoking area, or keep on the original dining room. The expansion has also created a new courtyard. What was once classy and delicious got a little better. Good news for everyone. -- John Horn

  • Great Ribs Superfast Service

    Review rating : 5out of 5   paulferries - 09/06/2007

Broest Ribs in Detroit. I am not sure why the some of the other reviews of service are bad, my experience is that the service is too good. I can barely finish the salad before the food arrives. I miss the Double Diamond on Draft but Blue Moon was a good replacement.

  • Best Ribs ?

I don't mind waiting for good food , not worth it here

There is no way these are the best ribs in town , I have had better at a chain . Memphis down the road is much better . Service was crappy , why treat your customer good when there is a another schmuck who believes the OXford is a good place right behind them .
    Go elsewhere ..
Maybe urban Detroiters do not know what real BBQ tastelike .
try the tunnel in Windsor or various local spots in downtown

  • Very Good Food - Bad Service

    Review rating : 4out of 5   pfflyers104 - 02/20/2007

The food at Oxford Inn is wonderful but the (1) waitress leaves a lot to be desired. My one neighbor won't ever go back and I'm having trouble talking my boyfriend into it either. One bad waitress shouldn't spoil the rep of a fine establishment. That one waitress made us go down the road to Memphis and we found the ribs were really good there also.

  • Servers and Managers are RUDE-

    Review rating : 1out of 5   dramaqueenjlf - 12/19/2006

My family and I were there on a late sunny afternoon...the sun was blinding us, so we politely asked the server if she could lower the blinds. She rudely refused, because a couple was sitting next to that window, and she didn't want to "bother them". (Never mind that the sun was bothering us!) All she had to do was ask, and I'm sure they (like any other considerate humans) would have moved to let her lower the blinds. We asked for a manager to come to our table. 15 minutes later, she did, and also refused to lower the blinds. We got up and left and we'll NEVER go back. The food is way over-priced for what you get anyway.

  • Liked it better in Novi......

Its ok, and if you are a regular its a bit better. Even if they could offer it ala carte, could I have something with my meat and potato? I dont mean some steamed canned corn thats been in the steaming tray all day. When I go out to eat its because Im hungry. If I wasnt hungry Id stay home.
