This Pineville outpost of the popular Kabuto chain features all of the elements that make the restaurants so popular: clean, modern decor, an extensive sushi menu and huge Hibachi tables. The Hibachi tables, which have grills right on them, allow you to choose some kind of meat (here try lobster, filet mignon or scallops) and then watch your own personal chef slice, dice and cook your food right in front of you. Does the food taste any better this way? No, but it is a lot of fun. The Hibachi tables are big, and therefore lend themselves to big groups. In addition to the Hibachi tables, there are regular tables where you can order from the sushi menu. You can also try an appetizer -- traditional Japanese fare like gyoza, tempura and tofu is available for less than $5. -- K.F. urphy
TIP: The lunch menu features almost the same Hibachi combos as the dinner menu -- but for less than half the price.

AWFUL!!!!
Ordered sushi and got something that looked like a 3 year old made it. The roll pieces give new meaning to "bite size". It was impossible to pick up the sushi with chopsticks because it would fall apart. The diameter of the pieces were comparable to a quarter. They were also extremely thin. If I turned the sushi on its side, it fit on my pinky finger. The prices were outrageous for what you received. I was completely shocked. The sushi did not even taste good. Went into the dining room and picked up my napkin to place in my lap. It appeared to have fringe around it. It wasn't fringe...it was a napkin so worn that the threads were unraveling, I'm not sure why I picked up the napkin ...I was not eating a dinner. My husband and I were sitting with our grown children while they had dinner. We had turned to face each other with our sides facing the chef. We were the last two people at the end of the table. Our conversation was rudely interrupted by the chef who had sent zucchni flying at my husband's face. I took another piece in the temple. I will go back...with my camera. It is my assumption that if people LIKE this restaurant, they're not very knowledgeable when it comes to sushi. Nakato's was next door, but there was an hour and a half wait. There is no doubt in my mind that most of the patrons there were at Kabuto were there because they could not get into Nakato's. I'll make it a point to return to this particular restaurant with my camera so as to document my disappointment. Don't waste your time people...go to Nakato's. It's worth the wait. There are Chinese restaurants in the area that have better sushi than Kabuto on Pineville Matthews Rd.

This is the place we go to for all birthdays, anniversaries, etc. We love it. We are never disappointed.
Maybe not Charlotte's
I've never been to the Kabutos in Charlotte, But if you ever travel North and come to Greensboro. Stop in at our Kabutos on Stanly rd right off wendover. The sushi is the BEST and the grilled food is great. Sounds like the Charlotte chain doesnt do as well. But my family LOVES Kubutos of Greensboro.
