Massa's Coal Brick Oven Pizzasimilar businesses >

Where would the Long Island pizza scene be without Patsy Grimaldi's nephews? Another one of her kin, Bill Massa has even figured out how to coal-oven bake a single slice. All the pizza and calzones baked in Massa's thousand-degree coal fire oven are cooked to order, so don't expect to see pizza sitting in the window gathering dust. In addition to calzones and pizza (in Massa's oven, a pie takes just over three minutes to cook), there's also antipasta salad, chicken Caesar salad and fresh baked eggplant parm. The margarita pie is probably the most requested pizza, but then anything cooked in a coal oven is going to set precedent when it hits the palette. Just be sure not to get too close to the oven, unless you're in a block of ice.

Much better
I returned to Massa's after a five month boycott (see previous rating of 11/07/09) after hearing that a "new partner" is running the place. The pizza and general menu selections have improved to the point where I'll be going back to my two-three times a week visits.

GIMMICKY AND NOT REALLY THAT IMPRESSIVE. THE PIZZA HAD VERY LITTLE CHEESE AND FOR THE PRICE , IT WAS A BIG ZERO.LIKE HAVE A CRUST WITH SAUCE AND A PIECE OF BASIL LEAF.....PUT CHEESE ON YOUR PIZZA AND IT MIGHT BE WORTH THE $15 YOU CHARGE !
Love it
The food is second to none. I just wish the owner would pay more attention to his customers and help his staff when the place is busy. We frequent the place 2 to 3 times a week but am really disappointed in the service and seating....Dropped from 5 stars to four.....
