Truly inspired pizzas are works of simple construction, artfully composed, but not over the edge, and the ingredients must be sacredly fresh. These pizzas send a lasting adrenalin rush, rather than the short-lived euphoria inherent to an ordinary slice on the street. To witness the difference, try one of the magnificent, crisp-crusted pies at this bright, lively, and eccentrically attired spot in the Belmar shopping center. Grab a seat at the community table or at the counter overlooking the two pizza ovens heated by the snap, crackle and pop of burning wood. Stellar toppings include indelibly fresh mozzarella and fennel-specked sausage from Marczyk Fine Foods. Oven roasted vegetables, soups, salads and sublime desserts like the sugar-sprinkled doughnut served with a chocolate mousse, round out the menu.

  • New Yorkers Don't Know Pizza

But neither do Coloradans. To New Yorkers, pizza is a slab of cheese melted over dough. Dino's on Colfax makes a better pie than anyone on this list.....Chicago

  • Beau Jo's is still the king

The Oven is good, Anthony's is ok, Virgilio's is very disappointing. Virgilio's seems to use canned everything, from mushrooms to jalapenos. By FAR the best pizza in Colorado with the freshest toppings, tastiest sauces and best crusts is Beau Jo's.

  • Good Cracker Pizza

The oven is good, but it gourment cracker pizza that is a bit expensive. I live in Lakewood, Virgilio's is by far true NY Style Pizza and is the better value if you with a large group or family.

  • Denver Post: Virgilios is Best

    Review rating : 2out of 5   prostarprs - 04/25/2006

The Oven #2 in Denver? It's not even #1 in Lakewood. The Denver Post compared The Oven and Virgilio's in a head-to-head review and gave their best pizza nod to Virgilio's Pizzeria Napoletana (www.virgiliospizzeria.com).

It's not even close...Virgilio's is it. It's on Alameda/Wadsworth and is THE place for NY style pie. Hands down.

If you want a wanna-be trendy spot with a mural of 2 HUGE faces staring at you while you eat, go to The Oven; if you want a great pizza in a real Pizzeria, hit Virgilio's.

I had the Fresh Tomato Pizza with goat chesse. It was absolutely delicious, a notch above all others in Denver , at this time.
The crust was thin and very light and cooked to perfection.
Highly recommended. Finally AOL people got one right !
