Diversity equals deliciousness at the Buenos Aires Pizzeria, a downtown cafe that delivers the tastes of Italy via Argentina. Named for the cosmopolitan Argentine capital, the shop creates pizza, empanadas and sandwiches based on those created in South America by transplanted Italians. The inventive recipes, combined with a kitchen that prides itself on the high quality of its meats and ingredients, makes for one of Denver's premier pizzerias, a critically acclaimed and popular spot that creates pies unlike anyone else's. You don't have to take our word for it; just try its eponymous house specialty, a pizza of mozzarella, ham, hearts of palm, roasted red peppers and salsa.

Located around the corner from Coors Field, Buenos Aires Pizzeria is split into two separate locations: a take-out facility at 1319 22nd, and two doors down, the casual, colorful dining room into which the establishment expanded. Argentine owner Francis Carrera, whose extended family comprises much of the staff, provides his patrons with more than just pizza, also offering up the establishment as a showcase for local creativity. The cafe's walls feature local artists, and the basement hosts live music Saturdays and twice-weekly tango lessons.

I'm from Jersey, so I know a thing or two about Pizza, and I'm usually pretty skeptical when it comes to toppings other than pepporoni, mushrooms or sausage. So, I was a bit taken aback when I first saw the menu here. It seemed there were just too many toppings that should never be mentioned in the same sentence as pizza, let alone being served with it. However, my fears were soon laid to rest when the food arrived, as it was fantastic! Even if it was just a mushroom pizza that I ordered that first time in.

I've been back to this restaurant several times since my initial visit, and with each subsequent visit, I've been more daring with my ordering. The last time I went, I ordered a pizza with bleu cheese and hearts of palm for the toppings (they friends in Jersey would bust up laughing at me if they ever found this out...). And I have to say, it was absolutely wonderful!

And, if you go, be sure to get yourself a nice Malbec, they have several to choose from, and don't pass on the gelato for dessert either.

  • This Pizzaria is Muy Buenos!

I was skeptical about trying Argentinian pizza, but after today, I'm a believer! We started with a couple of fresh baked empanadas. The ham & cheese empanada was simply delicious! For our lunch entrees we tried their popular cuban sandwich - with thick slices of roast pork, ham, cheese and mustard; and of course we had to try a pizza. My choice of pizza came topped with chicken, bacon and corn. I know, sounds weird - but it was excellent. We washed it all down with a tasty pitcher of Sangria ($18). Also tried the flan for dessert - it came pie shaped with a scoop of dulce de leche and whipped cream. We licked the plate clean! A great little place. You must try it!

  • Great Pizza

This place is just over a year old. They serve some of the best pizza I have eaten. East Coast pizza is hard to come by in the Mile High City, but Buenos Aires is as good as it gets. Wonderful pizza with great topiings and an oil sauce to die for. Check it out!
