A favorite since its opening in 1954, Rubinos influence has extended far beyond the borders of Bexley. Fans travel from around the city to worship at this altar of surely what must have been a pioneering move into Midwestern-style (thin-crust, square slice) piemaking. Even most large pizzas are still under $10. The interior visuals are spare and utilitarian, but the place smells like heaven. The menu is straightforward and Spartan: those who opt out of pizza can have spaghetti with meatball, meat sauce, or plain marinara. Service is friendly and diners find several booths and tables, along with an old pinball machine and photos of athletes both great and local. But most visitors are taking out: to teams, birthday parties and to children waiting eagerly at home. Chances are, it's a family tradition.
