Don't go to Susanna Foo expecting the usual Chinese food or decor. Much of chef/owner Foo's cuisine, served in an elegant, Asian-tinged atmosphere, is so heavily influenced by her French leanings that die-hard Chinese-food fans may be disappointed. But that's not to downplay the Susanna Foo appeal: Asian fusion aficionados and converts love this place. The menu goes as far toward Chinese as Kung Pao chicken and as far from Chinese as grilled filet mignon with saffron fettuccini. In between, you'll find mesmerizing combinations of French and Asian fare. Foo is known for her impeccable dim sum, which includes a sampler box with seared big eye tuna, baby crab cakes, ginger-smoked salmon with wasabi creme fraiche and mushroom dumplings; seared foie gras with truffle potato dumplings and grilled figs; and steamed veal and spinach dumplings. An excellent way to partake of the dim sum is by choosing the seven-course chef's table, which is served in a private room for eight-12 guests.

Not impressed

I expected so much more. Service and food were nothing extraordinary. Have had much better food and service just walking into most restaurants in Chinatown. I felt as if I was taken.

If you want to waste $150.00...just throw your money in the street! You will be much more satisfied than if you frequent this TRAP!!!!

20 years ago this was a great place, i am sure, and a great idea. but now even the local deli does fusion. no big deal, totally overpriced. susanna should close her doors.
Three Times still a Lady

I've tried them all but for the pure taste, originality and prensentation she wins hands down. Other places have better decors, friendlier hosts/hostesses and larger bar but Susanna Foo beats them where it counts. She would get 5 stars if not for the previously mentioned.
My New Years Eve dinner there was spectatacular even if it was overbooked and I spent the first hour at Circa's before my table was ready. She has my heart
Susann Foo will always hold a special place in my heart. Several years ago she offered a Chinese cooking class for children, which she conducted herself, taking the kids right into her kitchen. My to young ones loved the dumplings they were taught to make. "I love children" she confided to me. Her same care is apparent in her restaurant. This is gourmet Chinese food to the max! You'll never be satisfied with take out again!
what's all the fuss?

and the weird guy at the front desk should get fired..they still think rude equals sophisticated.FooFood4's Review

you have got to be kidding. did you read these other postings? while these guys sit around with their thesarus, i'll just tell you susanna foo is emabarassing and overpriced, and the guy at the front door, her retarted husband, is a jerk. take your money elsewhere.
Michael Vain's Review
Susanna Foo is one of the best restaurants in the city. She was one of the first to pioneer the uprise of restaurant row on Walnut St. Her cuisine is a perfect marriage of east and west, service is of the highest order, and atmosphere is only behind Le Bec Fin and The Fountain. Go for the tasting menu, it's a great value for those of you who are price sensitive. Her portions have gotten larger over the years as well. This is why Esquire magazine had named her one of the top 10 chefs on the east coast.
spencerseaver's Review

I've eaten on three occasions at Susanna Foo and have found the food superb and the atmosphere congenial. I have noticed that most of the posts on this board either rate the restaurant very high (4 or 5) or very low, indicating two contrasting groups of diners.By the way, for those who lean more towards traditional Chinese fare, the Kung Pao Chicken is a treat!
