The cafeteria-style setup, exposed pipes overhead and rainbow-color ceiling fans help keep Lulu's on the casual side. Head to the counter to investigate the menu, then place your order, grab your tray, and get ready to kiss those hunger pangs goodbye.

Portions here are large, boasting flavors that are strong but don't overpower the taste buds. Singapore rice noodles fill a large plate, thanks in part to plump shrimp, chicken, bean sprouts, onion and a hint of curry. Noodle soups, served in pretty ceramic dishes, also are full of steamy goodness, which sometimes includes small, edible flowers for an exotic touch. Of Lulu's "small eats" (known elsewhere as appetizers), a popular dish is crab rangoon -- crispy wonton filled with vegetables, seafood and cream cheese. Not in the mood for noodles? Lulu's shares space with its sister restaurant, Yum Wok Pan Asian Diner, so you can order dishes from the menu there, too. In a city of quick-stop Asian eateries, it's nice to know one spot lets you slow things down for leisurely meals with family and friends.

Great place to eat! I really enjoy going to this restaurant!

The food is not bad but portions are inconsistant. for example sometimes when you order tofu, you will get several pieces, other times only one or even none! Don't go there with a friend expecting that you will all get your food at the same or nearly the same time... you most likely won't. Another problem I have is they don't wipe off the tops of the hot sause bottles, and I've been the first person in the resturant when they opened in the morning so there is no excuse. I used to go there quite a bit beccause the food is normally not too bad but I have stopped going there because I am so frustrated with the service and am put off by the dirty hot sause bottles. I suggest you try it and decide for yourself.

  • Lu Lu's, Who?

Over rated. .. ...big portions but every dish has the same bland taste. And they don't accept credit cards at certain time periods.

  • If you love Bubble Tea, don't come here!

    Review rating : 2out of 5   mehndigal - 12/16/2004

Compared to other pan asian restaurants in town, you get bigger portions here. But there are many down-sides. The service isn't great. the food is bland, and there are only a few dishes worth eating (e.g. the Crab Rangoon and Lardnar Pork, which are both fine).
I'm always cold in the restaurant because they always seat me near the door, and tons of cold air always blows in.
Please, take me back to Philly or Boston to have some decent bubble tea because it's not to be found at this restaurant. Very powdery-tasting, not enough tapioca, and a very artificial, pseudo-sugar aftertaste.

  • AVOID LULU'S

    Review rating : 0out of 5   codewarriorpoet - 05/03/2004

Lulu's definately has some things going for it: great food and great service aren't among them. Their food is best compared to Pan-Asian cafeteria food. It is edible, and not unreasonably priced. However it is by no means above average. Their average food is complimented by lousy service: Frequently dishes are brought out one at a time- meaning you might be waiting for 10 minutes or more for your meal to be brought out, while your friend waits for his to get cold. Frequently, they mix orders up- bringing the wrong food to the wrong table. They have a very lackadaisical attitude when it comes to re-filling drinks. Usually it is necessary to ask one or more waiters/waitresses to have a drink refilled. With all the good places to eat on Craig Street, it would be unfortunate if you wound up stuck at LuLu's.

WOW! I've tried many Asian-influenced meals and Lu Lu's ranks tops. Everything from Pad Thai to your old friend General-Tso. The atmosphere is hip, colorful, and neatly appointed. The wait staff is fast, efficient, and super friendly. The food is fresh and served with the right amount of flair in its plating. If your are in/around Oakland/Shadyside, jump on over to S. Craig for an all-around memorable meal!

Lulu's is the overall best of all chinese restaurants. All the severs are nice and friendly and the food is out of this world! A popular student hangout that is also family friendly.
