The cafeteria-style setup, exposed pipes overhead and rainbow-color ceiling fans help keep Lulu's on the casual side. Head to the counter to investigate the menu, then place your order, grab your tray, and get ready to kiss those hunger pangs goodbye.

Portions here are large, boasting flavors that are strong but don't overpower the taste buds. Singapore rice noodles fill a large plate, thanks in part to plump shrimp, chicken, bean sprouts, onion and a hint of curry. Noodle soups, served in pretty ceramic dishes, also are full of steamy goodness, which sometimes includes small, edible flowers for an exotic touch. Of Lulu's "small eats" (known elsewhere as appetizers), a popular dish is crab rangoon -- crispy wonton filled with vegetables, seafood and cream cheese. Not in the mood for noodles? Lulu's shares space with its sister restaurant, Yum Wok Pan Asian Diner, so you can order dishes from the menu there, too. In a city of quick-stop Asian eateries, it's nice to know one spot lets you slow things down for leisurely meals with family and friends.

  • Reminds me of home

The beef chow fun here is quite good, reminiscent of what one can get (albeit much cheaper) in Flushing or Chinatown in NYC. The bubble tea with fresh fruits is a great change from powder flavored drinks and the food arrives fairly quickly (off peak mind you). One word of warning, for those too lazy to get up to ask for a refill, this isn't one of those places where they come around to refill your water glass or ask if you want more soda.

  • Great food, mediocre service

    Review rating : 4out of 5   chenning3 - 12/15/2007

I have found the service to be very poor at times, but food is always fresh and hot! Plenty of it too. The most consistant dish being the szechuan chicken noodle bowl.

  • Overrated

    Good: Location and portions
Bad: Food. I ordered a scallion pancake and it was a storebought TORTILLA with dried scallions on top. Greasy food, all dark meat chicken and no substituting.

Go to Little Asia across the street or Orient Express around the corner!

This is a great place! The selection is great and it's a wonderful place to take people who aren't sure what they're in the mood for. The portions are huge and cheap. The Pod Thai is delicious! And the crab rangoon is a perfect way to start a meal. My only complaint is you'd have to be feeding an army to spend enough for take-out. but you can't have everything...this place is a must if you haven't tried it!

    Excellent Seafood

  • service is bad

    Review rating : 2out of 5   spicedtea4 - 04/24/2007

food is ok, smoothies are very delicious but can sometimes take 25 min to get one to go. Cashiers have also been known to be slightly rude for no reason.

This place is amazing and I've never heard anyone say otherwise until this site. Large portions, average prices, delicious food.

  • Bad!!!

    Review rating : 1out of 5   johyunjoon - 01/28/2007

Food is just OK but the staffs bettwe learn how to serve customers....I ordered Thai Basil Beef with Noodle and when I got it, I received it with rice. I told the lady who took the order then she got angry at me and said "don't you ever use your phone when you place an order" Is this something I should be hearing? Also, as other people said, the portion is very inconsistent. Overall, the hygiene is not that great, staff attitude is horrible. They seem to think that they are the best in town...Also, they refuse to accept credit card during lunch hours. Plus, at dinner time, I usually paid with credit card and one day, they all of sudden said they won't accept card for amount under 10. The very next day, I paid 6.78 with credit card. I really have no idea what to expect with this restaurant. There are many other places where students can go.

  • LOVE IT

I have to say that Lulu's is fabulous. I have never had a bad meal there. The Dr. Fu Noodles are possibly one of the best quick dishes in Pittsburgh. Add to that a starter of fried wontons and then finish with the green tea ice cream...a fabulous cheap night out with friends that doesn't cost much. Plus, you will have plenty left for lunch tomorrow. You MUST give Lulu's a try.

I looked at the other reviews and had to come and stand up for LuLus...This place is superb...the price is right...the portions are generous...and I loved the food so much, my three daughters and I are going to make it a tradition to go there once or twice a month...the service was also superior...Very much worth the trip for anyone who has never been there...try the chicken with coconut curry sauce thing...delicious!
