The art deco-style exterior of Joe Mama's evokes the look of a vintage diner. Here, a faux-stainless-steel sign juts out at an angle above the entrance, at the corner of Forbes and Oakland. The wall on the Oakland Avenue side bears the legends "Absolutely No Ball Playing Allowed" and "Post No Bills" -- to deter the neighborhood hoodlums, presumably. Above these edicts, a mural of a Coca-Cola ad features a dark-haired femme fatale who looks as though she just stepped out of a film-noir picture, red-hot dress and all.

The decor here is modest, but Joe Mama's bears an aura of class that discourages rushing through your meal; waiters pace their deliveries to ensure no course overlaps. Along with a lengthy list of pasta dishes and a martini menu, special mention should be made of the half- pound meatball, available as a meal in itself or as part of a main dish.

I ate at Joe Mama's, it was great! My appetizer was "Nacho Mama's" it was great too. Got to get your "personal" 6-slice pizza great sauce recipe. Next time I go I'm trying the signature "meat-ball" I've heard that its fantastic!

I went to Joe's a few month's ago. I loved the place the first time, but the second time..didn't get the same respect as the first. It's a nice place for food, but some waitresses can be rude.

I'm about twenty minutes of busy roadways, away from this establishment, and I would make the trip any day, any time. The food is excellent, from sandwiches and pizza to lobster and fettucine alfredo, this place has a lot to offer. Not to mention the service is outstanding. If you do pay a visit you will not be sorry (and I'm a very picky eater).

This place used to be some dumpy fast-food joint. The remodelling that was done makes this place incredible. Food is definitely above-average but not fantastic. The atmosphere is worth the trip though.
