There's an old-timey ambience to Club Cafe, the hot little joint just a block from the business of Carson Street. The humble stage, the tastefully glittering walls, the elegantly backlit bar -- it's like a Rat Pack fantasy in here, just big enough to entertain a crowd, just modest enough to feel cozy. When musicians arrive from across the country (past acts include scores of big names; indie rocker Jill Sobule released an album here), no guest sits more than 30 feet from the stage. Club Cafe resembles an old-school piano bar (albeit with state-of-the-art amplifiers and recording equipment); wine is sipped, the menu is elegant, and the ovations are enthusiastic. When a live act isn't on stage, the club converts to a Steelers-worshipping sports bar, complete with overhanging TVs and boisterous fans. Compared with South Side's riotous nightlife outlets, though, Club Cafe is uniquely refined, a rare combination of club excitement, cafe flair and retro chic.

a nite out
Where else can you possibly capture the ambience that you get there? Caught an original group there called School of Athens. Dynamite. Purely original sounds..Waitress' were hard at work and kept the assembly line going...All the conversation and people watching you can handle......

Great for out of town fun! We were there for Geoff Muldaur and anxious to see Maria Muldaur tonight. The food is wonderful and the place has the best atmosphere we've experienced ! Hope to see some Blues artists there soon.

Saw the Drive By
Truckers here...great
little place for live
music and the band
was terrific. The
interior has a nice
design and the sound
is wonderful. Will
definitely be back.
Special kudos to the
bartender who was
the only one working
and really earned his
keep.MataKM's Review

1st of all (referring to comment below), if you cant afford a drink here, then you should stock up on booze and never leave home(if your not lazy enough to walk 2-5 blocks, dont worry about parking(this also refers to comment below)--------Great Venue but can get extremely crowded and very smokey, way too small a place to have many of the acts that are WAY TOO popular for this venue----- ultra fine place to dee anyone perform but get there early to get a seat (or a place to stand)------- 2 of the last 4 acts(2 of 4) were sold out in advance(sometimes weeks in advance)

One of the best small, super intimate venues in town. Super cool place to hang out, even if you have no idea who's performing on stage!
